MPC One and headphone impedance.

Will the 3.5mm front input be compatible with Beyerdynamic DT990PRO 250ohm headphones?
The original Akai MPC headphones have only 16ohm.

Yes, they will. With the DT990 Pro, it's best to get a good headphone amp. I had a pair but switched to the DT880 because they have a flatter response. The Treble in the 990 were too hyped for my tastes.

I did the exact same thing. The flatter DT880 was better sounding to me

Now I use DT1770s.

Also have a pair of Sennheiser HD800 - best pair of headphones I’ve ever used. I can mix to 80% on them. Then need to transition to studio monitors.

I use Senn HD 600 to do the entire mix.
I use the AT-HX50 to make the track.

Have not had the chance to test out the DT1770 long term. What headphone amp are you pairing with them?

Composing and doing some basic mixing on my laptop, I have a UAD Apollo Twin. In my main studio I use a UAD Apollo 8. In the commercial studio I use, they have SPL Phonitor 2s. Don't really think those are worth the price though. Very nice, but not really worth it IMO.

Yes, the SPL Phonitor 2s could be considered over kill for tracking. However for mixing and mastering it keeps the chain clean. The SPL 2Control, Sound Devices HX-3, Rupert Neve RNHP 1-Ch works well. The funny thing is I rarely mix in cans.

I was always one of those "mixing in cans is nuts" people. Then I started traveling a lot, and I couldn't make progress only being in the home base studio two days per week. That's when I bought the HD800s, and started mixing a bit on the road. Been a great investment, and can get the majority of a mix done that way. Still nothing like those big boy studio monitors though!

So headphones with what power I can connect to MPC One without buying a preamp?
This is my first MPC and I want to use only the sampler + headphones. Maybe some monitors in the future, but I can't listen music too loudly now.
I expect the best sound quality for an amateur, around € 100
They must be around the ear and not squeeze the head, do not sweat.
Damn I thought these DT990 would be ok.

IMO when it comes to getting advice about headphones (or any equipment for that matter), you have to consider the experience of the person giving the advice.

Charles and I have a common opinion about them, but realize that our opinions were formed from YEARS of use, and YEARS of gradual investment in cans that fit our maturing needs. I know several people that use the DT990s and they're just fine. I know several that had them, and needed to invest in something else because their ear changed, or sound changed, or, or, or...

As your music (and ear) matures, your need for different equipment will change. Use the DT990s, get used to them. Get the best out of them that you can. Then when you need different performance and sound from your cans, invest in ones that better fit your needs. For what you do, the DT990s might be perfect long term, or might only work for you short term. But you have decent cans already. Use our opinions to shape yours, sure. But don't go swapping them out (or any equipment really) based on opinions. See how they work for you first.

Just get some Sennheiser HD280's IMO

My DT990s are great. I dont really notice the high end spike in em, but my ears are old and worn out from years of guitar and noise abuse. Still getting used to the bass boost they have but they're pretty damn good for late night work. Just wish the cable on them was replaceable. Spend almost $200 and you get a molded cable that's going to break eventually, but my $80 AKG 240s have a replaceable one??

The DT990 Pro have a slight scoop in the mid range to me.

Yeah I haven't had em long enough or used em anywhere near enough to get used to em yet. If I start eq'ing with them on, stuff sounds kind of weird when I go back to the monitors. They're great for balancing though. Problems seem to stick right out that I never notice in the Tannoys.

@Mon, you probably had ear fatigue.
