On a serious note, this is what lm talking about we don't know if disk streaming is coming. Yall know how Akai us. Can't keep talking as if DS is right around the corner, but not think we shouldn't up the ram.

The MPC should be untouchable and make not even wanna come close to it.

It's been stated as much by Akai multiple times in the past year over at the Gearslutz MPC Live thread. It was also confirmed in the NAMM videos with Sonic State when the MPC One was being shown off. Is it coming via the Live 2? Yeah - I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yo man did you have your mud yet? Lmao lol

LOL nah that mud message was for Bees. He missed something l said and he said he didn't have his coffee. So he asked another question which you previously said and l was just messing with him about lol

I don't do mud either. I like the smell but don't like drinking it.

RAM is ridiculously cheap these days as well, makes no sense why this thing can't be a monster on specs for how much they are charging. a 4GB RAM DIMM is what, $20? For a unit costing more than $1,0000 why not up the RAM? Especially if they are interested in some sort of future app store for VSTS or whatever.

Is there anything concrete out there about an upcoming direct competitor 'standalone' NI Maschine? I really wanna compare apples to apples if they have one they were going to announce at Superbooth or something

Try this: create a beefy 4-5 minute track with lots of tracks. Now go into song mode and try recording audio for the same duration of 4-5 minutes (to maybe, say for instance, lay down some vocals over an entire track, or record some guitar or other live instrumentation). Do that for all allowed audio tracks.

Now try to save your song - and see what happens. Spoiler: you won't like what happens.

Disc streaming will basically allow the current gen of MPC's to (allegedly) record limitless audio tracks, or at least step up the number from the current anemic amount allowed. It could also open up new potentials for larger sample libraries and more complex key groups, etc. There's just a ton of potential.

All that said, how Akai actually ends up implementing it is anyone's guess, though.

Thanks for this beefy explanation

Sounds good indeed and is indeed a next step forward in making the MPC itself more of a standalone daw.

Now all they'd need is to make that friggin grid edit a bit more friendly to work with..

(* I'll apologize in advance for the long response...)

Stepping up to 4Gb of RAM to implement an app store for VST's? Currently, the only plugins that can work on the MPC's in standalone are some Air plugin effects and 3 extremely scaled down and voice limited DSP synths, and all of these are provided for free. Not sure implementing a VST app store on the MPC is even in the cards, since they'd need a thriving ecosystem to develop and sell them in - and right now Air is literally their only partner (and it takes ages for them to make plugins that can run on the MPC, as we've discovered first hand).

They'd need a much faster CPU to handle actual VST plugins, and between that and more RAM, now you're stepping up costs because they wouldn't be able to use the same CPU/RAM that the current One and X has, making production of each Live 2 unit notably more expensive. And since Akai is in business to sell hardware, that just doesn't seem like a realistic course at this point, IMHO.

OR! 16 keysteps for XOX style for sequencing. I would buy!

Though, it would look a hell of a lot like that pioneer toraiz sp 16.

That xox layout is dope on the toriaz and Roland stuff also. I don’t like the way it works on the Live/X because you have to change bars manually. I'll have to go back and see if there is an option to change bars automatically.

Yep indeed, i really don't like the step sequencer in the live at the moment for multiple reasons (those bars change included). Changing the sound you want to program is also cumbersome... they could make it so nice and fun with just a couple of changes. Just posted some ideas about that in the 2.8 thread
