Stepping up to 4Gb of RAM to implement an app store for VST's? Currently, the only plugins that can work on the MPC's in standalone are some Air plugin effects and 3 extremely scaled down and voice limited DSP synths, and all of these are provided for free. Not sure implementing a VST app store on the MPC is even in the cards, since they'd need a thriving ecosystem to develop and sell them in - and right now Air is literally their only partner (and it takes ages for them to make plugins that can run on the MPC, as we've discovered first hand).

They'd need a much faster CPU to handle actual VST plugins, and between that and more RAM, now you're stepping up costs because they wouldn't be able to use the same CPU/RAM that the current One and X has, making production of each Live 2 unit notably more expensive. And since Akai is in business to sell hardware, that just doesn't seem like a realistic course at this point, IMHO.

More wishful thinking I guess, just seems like one of those things that would really give these things legs for years, a whole ecosystem of people making vsts and whatever other plugins for these boxes

So I guess they are using the same chipset and everything across all models? Interesting!
It's funny since with ram/cpu costs dropping so fast every year, 3 years on since initial release they could get much more for the same price
