MPC60 BREAKBEAT TUNING QUESTION... !!

Just bought an MPC60 today and loving it so far!

I have a lot of reading up to do but just a quick question :

I sampled a breakbeat and tuned it down to make it sound even more gritty...loving it.

However, how do I set the metronome to match the tempo of the breakbeat? Or how do I tune the breakbeat, in realtime, to the metronome?

If you don't want to chop... you probably want to use math. Basically you need to figure out the number of samples, convert that to seconds, then how many measures you have... yada yada...

I'm pretty sure that Lampdog has some links in his handy signature that'll will get you a URL or two to explain it.

Keep in mind... swing will likely ensure that a 4/4 metronome won't land beats when your break does. So you need the overall BPM of your loop, and then you need to determine the swing if you want metronome clicks to line up better to the loop. This however is imprecise, because humans don't play perfectly...

After finding the start of the break >
Assign the sample to the pad >
Then turn the metronome on >
Set a start tempo >
Set Bar count >
Press play on MPC >
Then press the pad and match beat by ear >
Increase or Decrease tempo until you find one that matches >
Then record it >

Repeat until it's what you want.

be gracious. We all started at that point. Ok, some people havin a hard time learning and some don't but noone came to this world, ready to match beats.

I'm not bragging, that's why I tried to answer his questions. Honestly, the link that Lampdog provided may be harder for him understand, if he hasn't gotten the concept of matching the loop to the tempo.

One of the sections is "Transposing a sample with time-stretching without changing it's original tempo." :lol: But the link that he posted, is great information.
