How you want to work, is exactly how the pioneer samplers work the DJS-1000. The difference is the DJS-1000 has sync with DJ LINK. Which is instance and the sync is ultra locked in. You could do the same thing with Two MPC One's. I've done this with two MPC 4000 and mixer. However it's a different than using the DJS 1000 because they work like turntables with the pitch.

Not exactly the same but I’ve done it with

Live & Touch via midi
Live & REN via midi
Live & Mpc 1000 via midi

Live & Touch, REN, Studio via ableton Link no midi
Live & IMPC 2 via ableton link

All worked fine. Just waiting on the Live Mk2 and just link both of those as my main recording unit.

As I mentioned earlier, an MPC One (or Live, or X) can have 1 project loaded at a time. Each project can contain up to 128 sequences, 128 tracks, and 32 songs. You can save as many projects on your SD Card or USB stick as the memory will allow, as sample content is saved along with your projects.

Honestly, yes - a single MPC would likely be fine, and buying two would just be a colossal waste of money, IMHO. I mean, unless you can think of a reason why you'd need two (redundancy for touring would be wise).

Huge advantage having a pair
1: Live use playing one , while loading the next project on other
2: double the audio tracks--synced
3: process each MPC-ONE differently through your mixer

+1000! Every piece of gear should connect and talk to each other. I feel that, if gear must to be swapped in/out in order to use it. It's not patched in correctly or it's not needed.
