Now let me ask you, what makes you think l haven't heard and messed with Luna? Why do you keep telling me to give it a try? I already heard it. Played with it. Man it has mostly all the commands of Protools. Are you telling me it doesn't? If you're so familiar with it you would know that.
Sound quality wise maybe you need to give the credit to the Apollo.
UAD makes both so of course its going to have a thingand tweaked a certain way and color on it and you immediately think its so ssuperior in quality.
It would be like me saying S1v4 when used with Presonus interface sounds better than anything out there.

S1v4 has great quality and functions that l would never trade for Luna.
If you're going on just quality which you are then you're bugging. You didn't even answer my questions.
You keep saying YOU AND OTHERS say its doper than this and that. AGAIN ITS A NEW TOY! That's what happens bro. It sounds a lil different don't make it better. Plus the persin on the end need to know how to use it that's the important thing.

Dude, my entire focus from the jump was the audio quality. Feel free to re-read my initial post.

I'm also having trouble believing you tested it out, because If you really did, then you would know that Studio One is not Seeing the audio quality of LUNA.

Does Studio One have a larger feature set than LUNA?

No contest!

But does it sound as good as LUNA?

F u c k no!

And hate to break it to you, but sometimes different is better.

All you gotta do to hear the discernable difference is put the tracks in dry and raw.

No plugins.

No summing.

No analog tape.

Just the raw tracks and press play and you will hear the big difference between LUNA and whatever DAW you want to compare it with.

I love Studio One and been mixing with it for years, but as far as audio quality goes LUNA wins...

At the end of the day those that buy music don't care about all this crap we producers get into. They wanna know is it a dope track and how loud it is.

Hmmm classic tracking and mixing....

I'd be interested to see original track, then tracks run through different DAWs... followed by some frequency analysis.

Personally I don't want a DAW to add character until after I turn that stuff on... I am curious however how much character is being added here.

The problem I have with DAWs just adding character is that it creates an impure signal path, where each time you run a signal through it you are changing the character of the recording. While tape adds some interesting character, it is also the reason that it is hard to work with... every time you copy/paste content around in tape you continue to change the quality and character of the subsequent recording.

Systems that change the character and quality of sound source can be put to good use... but they can also end up producing garbage.

For a fun experiment... do this in your favorite DAW, recording platform, or whatever...

1) Record a sound
2) Play the sound pitched up 6 semitones and resample
3) Play the sound pitched down 6 semitones and resample
4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 twenty times

Listen to what this produces. You're going to get some weird lo-fi pseudo filtering from the artifacts... and this is likely to be the case regardless if you resample through digital or audio. You can run this experiment many ways... pitch down... pitch through a different range... pitch up/down different amounts at each stage.

For the most part, there isn't any audible difference at all, unless the Software Daw does something intentionally like Harrison's MIX BUS does. From what I remember, Harrison does something in the mix engine that can't be turned off. This could be what Fresh Breath is talking about. Maybe LUNA has a built in plug in on the summing that can' t be turned off, because the emulation is in the code.

For me, I really don't care. As long as the music sounds good and the Software DAW, Interface, Speakers does what I tell it do and not the other way around.

Like many vendors in their position, they’re doing something behind the scenes to differentiate their sound. And that makes perfect sense to do. How much of it is really “Luna” and not a behind the scenes plug - who knows. But either way, Luna definitely produces a color that’s unique IMO.

How much that “sound” is compelling enough to switch to Luna? For me, not enough. I think to get the most of Luna you need the Neve Summing, and that’s $300. So for me, that makes Luna NOT free. Hell that plug ALONE is more than Logic. I think it’s a bad move for UAD actually. People have already spent $700 - $3000 on an interface, and more in plugs, then say “here’s a free DAW”, but to get the differentiating plugs you gotta pay about $1000 for all three,. That’s turning a LOT of people off. For many, that makes Luna $1000 - WAY more than the other DAWs. That’s going to be their biggest challenge in getting people to adopt. They’ve basically created another Pro-Tools situation. Crazy expensive entry cost because you have to own the hardware.

But anyway, sound-wise it’s cool. But IMO not enough to switch to Luna. But we won’t know exactly how good Luna can get until a year from now. For now though, it’s WAY ahead of the MPC software in terms of thought, design and interface. You can tell they have some skilled developers that put a lot of design time into it. It’s a great foundation.

:worthy: :worthy: :worthy: Thank you E.

That's what I was saying, it's just another Protools, and updated good looking Protools! I am not going down that road with UAD. I don't need their stuff to do what I need to do. For me, I have 2 DAWs to handle everything. Buying a summing piece, no way, I'm not doing that, and definitely not doing a 800-1,000 interface. I been there done that, and I moved away from it.

That's what dude is hearing a color, but he mixed it with his opinion that its sonics is better than S1v4 and Reason. Reason has a sound, because of the SSL9000k emulation, which I and MANY others love, and I have all 8 effects sends sitting in front of me easy to mix just like a real SSL board. I will not switch over, I don't care how good they get. Others can do it and spend that money, niot for me. It looks good though, but yeah that ish with the interface is to much. And if you have to use the software with the interface only that's that same Avid ish. I'm not even going to phantom or think about that program.

And I have two tracks as proof below done in Reason, some of the sounds done in S1v4 and some done in Reason. Mixed in Reason and mastered in S1. I would love how great Luna sounds which suppose to make it superior than both the DAWs I have. You can make a hit with any DAW, it's up to the Producer.
