Mpc x shortcuts for pad perform and sampling w/ pad perform.

Can someone direct me to a good write up to sampling external.synths using pad perform back into an MPC X using the looper or sample page?

Also are there any shortcuts I'm missing for having pad perform enabled in the main screen?

Jumping back and forth all the time doesn't kill my workflow but if I didn't have to do that It would improve it.

I've been dedicating this Quarantine to getting more familiar with transitioning from a JJOS MPC 1000 workflow to an MPC X.

It's getting better but I wish there was a JJOS interface for the new mpcs. The looper feature on my 1000 was so easy to use and customize able I know this is not really ever going to happen but I def can keep dreaming about it.

1. Not really, because you can't use pad perform simultanioulsy when you want to record it in the sampler/looper/audiotrack. The only way to go about this is to record the tones/chords in pad perform on a computer or external HD recorder and then import them back into the MPC as a wav file.
1a. You could however also just midi up your external synth and then use pad perform.

2. Don't know if the MPC x has a dedicated button for this, but for live it's a two times click to get there.. Seems fast enough imho

I have connected the external synth via Midi to control it with pad perform but I was hoping there was a way to record back into the mpc x somehow. I though about recording everything into my MPC 1000 and then transfering all my loops back into the mpc x to chop and sequence. I was trying to avoid this though since it's a little more time consuming and I don't have a lot of desk real estate to be running two mpcs side by side.

Is your synth's output, going into the MPC X's input?

If so:
Midi the MPC X to the Synth
Play and Record Synth part on a MIDI TRACK
Then go MPC Sampler section, hit monitor and set sample time
Hit arm and press the play button on the MPC.

This will sample the synth part, then you can manipulate it however you wish.

Hey thats a great workaround. I was so micro focused on being able to use pad perform in the looper I didnt even think of something so basic like recording the midi the notes and then playing the synth into the looper/Sampler after.

Or instead of the sampler, you can record it in an audio track. Just don't forget to put the midi track on mute or delete it afterwords, or you'll get some phasing fun.

That works. I find it easier to sample it, change it drum program, assign it to pad, edit the start or end, and record it on a track. That way it's easier to apply effects, filters, layers, etc.

Also, for me, audio tracks are nicer because they start on whatever bar you play. If you use a one shot sample as a loop, it only starts at the beginning of your sequence (or whenever that loop is triggered).

The only thing i hate about audiotracks that they don't show in the track mute screen. Even JJ os could do this.

Well it all depends on how he's recording. If the synth is just a loop from begin to end. There's no need to use an audio track but it can work that way.

Yeah, you have to mute it in track view.
