i sincerely don't understand the criticism. as much as i love old school mpc's, i find the actual plugins very cool, especially tubesynth and electric, they not only sound good but are also not so basic, tubesynth has a lot of great features for a simple virtual analog synth! i think the approach Air has taken on both effects and instruments is really cool, original and well delivered. cant wait to do some fm on my mpc :) as for drums, i usually prefer to synthesize them myself with actual synths\modules but if the drum plugins will be good i have nothing to complain :)
my only hope is they also include some of the features commonly asked. i personally would like to see the return of clear time signature for each sequence, immediately play next sequence behaviour, step record and maybe a better automation implementation. oh, and direct to\from disk if possible :) not so interested in multi midi in, but i'd be happy if it comes.

well i get it, these days it doesn't fly to have a product you power on and it doesn't make sound. they want to offer a way to have built in sounds or something it can do on it's own. people often judge products on the sounds they come with instead of by what can be done with it.

that being said, i think a major problem is that you have a synth plug in on a track... you click on program edit, and it just opens the front panel of the plug-in but there are no settings for the program (like if you were using a normal drum program)

in a daw, you launch a VSTi and you have the vst wrapper hosting the plug-in where you have access to certain things you can control and adjust... it seems like when they started porting these over to the mpc, they forgot that the MPC doesn't have that. it is almost as if it would be better to come up with your bass or synth lead... then resample them to be used in a drum program.

All these sounds on a 16 Pad drum machine does not make sense. If this was a keyboard workstation, like @Eylac requested, that would make sense. Because there's enough keys to utilize the instrument, without having to connect an external MIDI Keyboard.

Are the sound usable? 100%
Will other people use them? 100%

We have hit the peak of sampled sound set. How many more instrument, do people think there are to sample? My guess would be, not many. That's why all these instruments are just recycled sounds, with different effects and updated GUI's.

That's why Behringer is cloning all these old synths, instead of innovating and release new $hit. Instead of plugins, release a brand new kind of musical instrument, or something that really pushes the MPC into the 21 century. Copying what Roland did, with the MV8000 Series in 2003 is not doing it.

My drums are also ITB. Well, they are on a SSD 2.5 and l keeo that in a swappable dick. I have two docks, l love that setup.

When l want to use my drums on the MPC live l just export them from the SSD to the MPC and then its go time. Export them back to the computer, drag and drop into either DAW. Some times l may do my chords and a melody in S1v4 with my drums one shots bring them unto the MPC make the drum pattern under the chords. Then take the drums export my drums and bring them into the DAW where l have the chords and its GO TIME! S1V4 is incredible , it has a new drum software and function with randomization . lt does have the dice thingy yet but you can ramddomize physically , reminds me how people use FL studio. So p started doing drums there now. I was doing my drum heavily in Reason now l don't.

I don't use the MPC for anything else. But that's why l sad l am going to get the CME Xkey 37. I need it so p can play the synths in the MPC in standalone mode. I could make chords and melodies in the MPC and export them into Reason. I like how the MPC loads the sounds in one step. But l asked the other day they need to make instrument expansions i.e. pads, bells, pianos (tutor has those) , leads, textures, Ambient pads, Brass, Strings, Piccola, Flutes, violins, cabasa, shakers, timpani
Drums, Taiko drums, etc. Being the size of ram is limited the expansions would be the way to go. I could put the MPC to more use.

But now lm shocked  cause Akai has made more synths for standalone. What they should of done was put the Air Instruments as an update. That would be dope! Producers would be happy. I could make a record with just those instruments alone. without cutting on my main computer l can use the MPC and CME Xkey and its go time! That will be my mobile unit also.

CharlesRandolph wrote:From my limited understanding of how you work, all your sounds are in the box except for your drums. Besides using your MPC to program your drums and export them via USB or SD Card. How else do you use the MPC LIVE? Do you use the MPC's Standalone plug ins?

c-real wrote:If you look at the pictures (https://www.gearslutz.com/board/showpost.php?p=14682637&postcount=22494), you will notice that there's also a multi version of the plugin. Since, unfortunately, the multi version of the Drum Syth only has 2 outputs, the separate versions are a good thing because it will allow us to bounce drums as separate tracks. I really hope there's some kind of "explode" feature to transform a multi-instance of the multi plugin into several drums plugins, so that we could write complete patterns in the grid editor and finish the song by mixing tracks with our DAW (or any other audio tool).

Concerning the limitation of 8 plugins, I guess it will be a little frustrating but I suggest that it's just a question of CPU consumption.

As a side note, if the multi MIDI inputs feature does not come with all those plugins, I don't understand Akai's logic anymore

Ah yes - nice catch! Drum Synth Multi was actually in the pics I linked to in my OP, and I didn't even see it until you mentioned it. :WTF:  And yeah, +1 to an explode feature.

+1000. I pretty much agree with everything you said. The new MPC's are so much better in this regard IMHO, and a metric shit ton more versatile because of it. I really don't get it that people don't "get it".

So what's keeping you, from just doing everything inside of Studio one and foregoing the MPC all together? I've played around with the plug ins, but none of them have actually made their way into a composition. I won't use them for scratch sounds, because these MPC, can't export MIDI data.

How about you?

I likely wasn't going to use it any way, but that's the nail in the coffin. The software not supporting multi-output plugins is what drove me away from it. They have to address that. A plugin for each kit piece is nonsense.

That's what I was hoping for. They don't seem to combine iMusic divisions well. I'm curious what they're going to do with BFD.

That's not totally true, they do use the same parts, across different platforms. Does that count? I suggest, get rid of all the other plug in and put BFD into the MPC's.

Interested to see where it all goes but on 2gb ram its only gonna get more sluggish i think. im wanting all features of the 4000 etc as my starting point to be happy with the software but if it turns into something completely new and amazing thats fine too but without being able to do all classic features its got some big shoes to fill. i still use my live but its on basic finger drum duties while mpc3000 manages master clock and good drum tones, 2500 manages the synths via multimode midi in. the live is just for gigs or extras, multitrack export, touch fx and nice pads i will give it, sound engine, pitch, stretch algorithms and output chips are brittle and lifeless. hopefully the software/standalone os one day becomes something special cuz my live is worth half what i paid for it while waiting for some updates to make it what i hoped, cmon inmusic v3 multimode midi in to make these plugin useful please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's keepin g me from doing everything in S1V4 factor in two things:
1. I have to have my X-One Touch to control all the aspects of S1v4. XOne has a S1v4 template but l have to basically det that up. It works well with Reason 11.
2. For ME S1v4 doesn't have that SSL 9000 going on in it. I love using the ssl 9000 in Reason. Its like operating a real SSL board. I may mix in S1v4 once l get the X-One to rock with it.
But l do use S1v4 a lot cause of its dope feaures and now l use it for my drums also, doing chords, melodies etc. I use S1v4 more that the MPC.

Its a bummer that the MPC standalone DONT export midi.
