Which Drum Machine Sounds the Best?

while watching the thread grow I thought about that 'Well he probably just want to make that point that it's not the gear' but then 'No, he wouldn't f### wit us that way'

During listening I realised the volume difference, thats why I cut the loops and peak normalized them individualy to get the 'same' volume.

I havn't heard much difference (well, in the end the things I've heard were caused by expectation : It HAS to sound different) but I couldn't tell which one was which sampler so I tried to be uber smart and analyzed the loops.
That way I found the timing 'issue' in Loop 1 that I instantly attribute to the 2000xl cause I remembered this kind of inaccuracy in timing from my 2000 (inaccuracy when the sequence start over again).
I also invert polarity of the loops and checked them against each other.
The results sounded slightly different in level (I didn't cancel out 100%. Maybe because even with peak normalizing it's not 100% identical in level or the 44,1 samplingrate is not enough and wouldn't allow to align the waveforms 100%).
So what I did was just guessing

Yes, expectation and bias plays a big role. Just like in politics.

This is what I expect next: You post that you lied in your other post and that the loops ARE recorded in differnt MPCs

Yeah can't do that because it go against the Placebo Effect. I took this test in the past and it really opened my ears to what I was listening too. The MPC do have a different sound, but nothing that is that different.

However lots of people drink the Kool-Aid, because the want to believe that their $5000 USD, 1980's drum machine is uber special and will give them super beatmaking powers. But the truth is, it's just a drum machine designed, by a person who makes drum machines.

That's all it is, one big guess. Marketing and Psycho Acoustics really does a number on us. Theses older drum machines, do have a particular sound but that's from old components. Take your older MPC and have it all the caps changed to newer, lower noise ones. You'll, here the machine open up.

When it comes to a sampler, I want the sampler to produce as close to the sampled source as possible. Then while the source is in the machine, it allows me to manipulate it the way I want.

yes. It sound ok for just listening to music but as a monitor for mixing........nope.

The levels aren't match, unfortunately.

My impressions:
1 nice ghetto punch
2 sounds less fat and bit more lifeless to me
3 has more punch and transient information on the kick
4 sounds a bit shallow and lacks presence to me

I like 1 and 3.
2 & 4 sound less appealing to me.
