Things that would have been more useful in place of a SPKR..

The new speaker is unnecessary to a lot of people (I'm assuming 100% of us already have headphones/monitors) and it takes up a fair amount of real estate. Here's a list of things I would have found more useful on the LIVE2:

*The speaker is not everyones cup of tea, obviously, but its not ALL bad... so have some fun & don't get your headphone coils in a bunch over this.

1. 16 step sequencer buttons
2. More shortcut buttons/pads
3. 4 more qlinks (not necessarily @ bottom)
4. A 32 key synth keyboard...
5. Larger touchscreen
6. Sliders/crossfader
7. An FM radio (SPKR would make more sense w this)
8. Optional dock for a rumble pack/synth engines/light show modules
9. Keurig pod compartment...

Add your own!

1. A larger battery offering 8-10 hours of time instead of the current 6
2. Make the pads smaller like on the MPC One so there's more room for...
3. The same larger touchscreen that's on the X
4. Even more shortcut buttons
5. At least one XLR mic pre on the back with 48v phantom power

And this would be in addition to everything that is already on the Live 2, with the exception of the speaker.

I mean... #5 should've just been there. Or an integrated mic into the MPC at least. If you want to do anything outside of the live while you're away from your studio you need a whole other ecosystem of cable, hardware, etc... and this would've been one less thing you might need to lug around. Heck just 48v phantom power on the TRS would've been fine.

I don't mind the Live being a Swiss army knife... but mk2 feels like they missed a few opportunities to add another trick or two.

I want to hear it before I knock it.. every track should get the boombox test anyway.
You could always remove the speakers and mod it your liking.

I am probably going to save my money and get a MPC X or the MPC One. I already have a MPC Live and I don’t see myself actually getting the MPC Live 2 just for its studio monitors. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Akai stops selling the MPC Live in favor of the MPC Live 2.

I cannot see a business reason for the Live and Live mk2 to exist in production at the same time. They are too much in the same space between the One and the X.

Wow all the more reason to get rid of the live. Im not going to get stuck.

I hear yah. I definitely see the speaker unnecessary. It is not a game changer! I've already went into it. I like putting my headphones on and rock out.

HEY, the new 1210 now have a pitch reset button!


Also I still don't like the ergonomics of the MPC Live. At least they should have put the pads on the correct side
And where the hell are the 8-12 free configurable 'jump to menu' function button beneath or above the display?
Where are the two slim ribbon controllers below and beside the display you can use to either zoom (in sampleedit or 'pianoroll') or as effect/pitch/modulation controller?

I think folk are expecting too much from a drum machine!

Roll back and youll see this thing is doing things that most wont even touch.

I think the speakers made it true stand alone.

Disc streaming could've taken the place of them speakers tho lol.

This is the main part of a modular system. It has USB connectors on left/right and front. You can connect direct to the main device via solid easy on/off screw connection or via USB cable.
The other modules are:
- Speakers (in cooperation with Genelec ) They come with their own batterypack build in and can also be
used without the MPC as mobile Speakers.

- a knobs/faders touchpad modul that can be placed on the left or the right side of the MPC.

- a keyboard module that can be connected to either left/right or the front of the MPC (same dimensions as the main MPC modul)

The system is freely connectable so you can choose where to place (for example) the speakers (direct to the MPC or after a knob module)


The picture is just a rough draft. In the corner between the ribbon controller there will be a button to switch ribbon mode from zoom to scrub so you can (either n sampleedit or pattern mode) zoom or scrub thru the sample/pattern. In Live mode you can onfigure the ribbons to use as FX modulators

The buttons above the display are quick menu buttons that are freely configrable. We havn't descide ATM if the configured function will be shown at the display or if we implement an extra oled strip above the buttons. (We might get rid of the AKAI logo because of that

There is enough space for buttons like Note repeat/16level etc. We hav't decide where to place those ATM

Of course you can also connect Mouse and PC keyboard for easy rename and control the software
