Midi question(2.8) Isolating midi channel to a track(SOLVED)

I thought I could have the incoming midi from my Keystep play an external synth and remain doing so while I switch to another track. I can’t get the switching track bit to happen though.

I have the following setup;

Arturia Keystep connected to Live via USB.
Behringer Crave connect to Live via 5-pin midi (going TO the Crave). Audio out of the Crave to the Live.


Track 1 is a drum program. Midi input > none. Send to > none.

Track 2 is a Midi program. Midi input > Keystep. Channel 1. Midi Output > Crave (Midi A) Channel 1

I have a sequence programmed on the Keystep. The Live is receiving midi clock from the Keystep. Pressing Play on the Keystep starts and stops everything. Adjusting the rate on the Keystep adjusts everything. It’s all in sync. I’m loving that..

The sequence plays out to the Behringer Crave. It’s all good.

Problem is, I thought I could switch over to Track 1 while the sequence is playing, and mess with my drums, but when I do, the incoming signal from the Keystep stops playing Track 2. Initially it also started playing the track I switched to until I set the track input to none.

I have spent a while now trying to mess with the midi preferences but I can’t isolate the incoming midi from the Keystep to Track 2. Should I be able to do that?

Midi Preferences are currently;

Input ports - Arturia Keystep >CTRL ON >Track ON

Output ports - Arturia Keystep >SYNC ON >Track ON
- Crave (midi A) >SYNC ON > Track ON

Arm the tracks or switch monitoring to in.

After reading more carefully I might have the wrong end of the stick.

....thaaaank you! I had it armed, but changing it from AUTO to IN has solved it.

Yeah this is dope. I've got the Keystep playing a sequence to the Crave synth, and then switching the Keystep to kybd-mode I can play a plugin on another track. I don't know whether you could do this before but I'm loving it now. It's changing the way I use the Live. Plus I could never send midi clock over USB to or from the Keystep.

2.8 has given us all a mk2, speaker or not...

Massive improvement. I bought a Ren about 7 weeks ago to use as a drum module/controller so i was gutted to find the lack of basic midi routing.
Made my day when I saw 2.8s changelog.

Can now export my project midi to reaper and finish aranging it there without having to bounce and go back and forward for edits.
