MPC 2.8 worth the wait

And with 2.8, which is a Wonderful update for touchscreen and qlink improvements and qlink overlay, they screwed up instant track mute.
At least on my Mpc Live running 2.8, some samples on drum tracks keep on playing even when I switch to a new sequence where the drum track is supposed to be muted.
That's very annoying for the way I work.

I tested similar this morning, and I'm seeing the same. Not sure if I'll roll back or just push everything to Logic at this point.

I agree that 2.8 was a step in the right direction for Akai, and IMO was the best focus since the 1.x days, but I can't stand that the software's foundation is troubled. Will be good when it's stable and we don't have scenarios like this one... breaking a necessity while improving an annoyance.

Still say, I use my MPC daily. Still love the workflow. And still say this board has way too much beta and not enough alpha. LOL

Running MPC renaissance no issues with mutes when changing sequences.
(Software based)
So looks like the firmware update broke it for the standalone gear.

Might keep a few of you working if you can bare controller mode.

My opinion is that Akai will continue to have troubled updates like this as long as they keep their alpha/beta testing closed to a small group of testers like they've been doing. Clearly these early access "pros" are constantly missing things, and this is something that could easily be caught with a proper public beta testing phase after their closed testing. Reason Studios (Propellerhead) mastered this approach over 15 years ago.

Akai briefly opened a second beta forum, but it's been largely dormant/useless.

I hear you. I was mostly being tongue in cheek, in that I expect both the bug fix as well as a second wave of Live 2 shipments to take a lot longer than I want. I'm good with getting either quickly, though!

Yeah the testing woes have been an issue for a long time. I think it's also due in part to the genre focus of the testers. if I had to guess, the testing group focuses on similar genres, so things that an R&B producer would want (ie easy time signature change) wouldn't be something a hip-hop producer would check for nor raise as a concern - just generally speaking. I know - small example - but just saying.

Also agree with you - Reason Studios has a phenomenal testing process.

Again I still have not tested yet hopefully tonight with it as a plugin in Cubase 10.5.. stop the hate dont roll back just roll out of here.. you can go to maschine what are they on 2.10.1.1.1.1.1. Bugs happen and in sure akai will fix. At least this wasn't a bug fix rollout with additional bugs they brought a ton of midi greatness that us old timers loved..

I agree with ENOCH on the Reason notice. Im a participate in their beta testing. I pointed out they need to stop keeping the 1000 Patch code separate making it difficult for offline computers. They actually listened. Upgrading is so smooth now. That's why l support them cause its really the center of my Production.

Another company on the rise is Behringer and they are listening also. As a matter of fact they encourage us to give ideas.

I don't know what they did but everything is faster with 2.8, qlinks, changing mode, putting notes on grid.
Maybe some optimization of the OS.

Well god damn, here I was about to waste money on a MioXL... Never knew this was a class compliant device and Ive owned it for 20+ years!!

i don't know if anybody noticed but this update is the smallest (in size) since 2.1
-in fact these updates get smaller & smaller every revision

-i think that means they are optimizing their code every time

-what i don't know is if that leaves us more space for user samples
