Sampling

Does anyone know how to get certain sounds to come through from the mpc live when sampling I was able to do this with the mpc 2000xl by switching the input

You mean monitoring?

If so, go to Sampler and push the monitoring button and see if that does what you want.

Certain sounds like vocals or a chord would only come through but if I changed the input or output depending if I was recording into something you’d only hear drums or cowbell

No that’s not what I meant this is something I discovered but it also turned out to be a secret with some producers where certain sounds would come through by changing the input or output depending if you where recording into something like you’d only get drums and vocals and if you changed the inputs or output you’d only get chords or a bass

Two ways: either you have access to the multi tracks (or craft your own, which rarely sound as good as true multitrack), or you’re doing phase cancelling (as mentioned by NearTao). This is no “secret”. It’s been common studio practice for decades.

Some old 60s bands would pan their mixes hard left and right. I think the Beatles did that kind of stuff. So for example bass is hard right and vox hard left. Removing either your left or right channel When sampling can give you isolated sounds. I found a bass line that way one time... But thats not an mpc thing, that Just depends on the sample you are using and how the studio put the mix together
