Hi everyone,
I’m pretty new to the mpc so this may be a noob question. I’m chopping up samples and I want to put each chop onto a single note on the key group program as it has features I want to use that the drum program doesn’t have. To do that I need to save each chop as individual sample files that I can load in. Is this possible in standalone and if so how. Any help is massively appreciated :).

Do your chops, export to a program, and use 16 levels. This in many cases should be more than sufficient to cover a wide note range without having to create a key group...

If you've got your heart set on key groups though, then yes... you might want to extract the samples. You can also non destructively reference the sample and slice in the key group, but if you end up changing slice information or moving them around you can make a royal mess of a track quite quickly.

My advice is to read the manual, and consider picking up Tutor's Bible... both will cover this in a lot of detail.

Its along the right lines, thanks for the suggestion, but I want it to play only one drum hit at a time and have the next hit immediately play afterwards Without any gaps. Which the generate random events unfortunately does have gaps as well as playing multiple hits at the same time. I could draw them manually but with around 40 slices and no waveform display on the grid. I figured an arpeggiator would be best it’s what I used to use on ableton when I was making jungle so I’m trying to see if it’s viable on the mpc too.

After listening to the music example.

Best to do it in Drum Program, chop the drums, put them on a pads, and program them using Note Repeat or finger drum them in. As as far doing it in Keygroup on the MPC, it won't function that way. Not saying it's not possible to find a work around, but the payoff may not be worth the time.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried it in drum program mode already but My finger drumming skills are not up to the par currently to keep up with 170bpm but I could try the note repeat function especially for the more aggressive styles like the one shown. For something more chillout I’ll probably have to look at other methods. Cheers :)

Program the drums track by track, if you can't finger drum them in. If 170 is too fast, make the tempo 85 when doing the drums, then after you have what you want, increase it to 170.

When making DnB or Jungle before computer, we just did it track by track, tapping pads and using the note repeat. Good luck on the journey.

I’ll give that a try. Thanks for the help :)
