For ME, l love working my DAW on the computer rather than staring at a 7 inch screen. That's why l only did drums on the live. It would take me less than 5 minutes on the live. Then they would go to my DAW any way.

1. I get to sit straight up and look into a wide 32 inch screen where l can see everything. Though l had the Live on tilt l still leaned over somewhat.
2. The advantage of using my mouse to move and edit things quickly is inspring with no worries. I can arrange nicely and be cinfident at what lm doing.
3. I use 2 DAWs, Reason 11 and S1v4. From automation to markers to handling as many audio tracks l can is sweet.
4. The power my desk top spits out is incredible. Over 4 cores, Win 10 OS, 28 gigs ram optional 256 Gigs ram :) 4.00Ghz bus speed etc can't be matched by the MPCs.
5. I work faster that's important.
6. Can mix correctly in my DAW.
The list goes on.

Conclusion, l'd rather work with the computer and looking at a screen. Others do also especially those that want to work with the MPC software but can't because it's not up to par.
I use to think l wamted to be untethered from the computer but l was wrong.
Tjere are those that like to work without a computer and that's fine.
At the end its about your talent abd what you put out.

Exactly! But you were using both but most importantly, you're creating. Not searching for some mystically creative moment in your life. Plus, you've had the experiences of using a MPC 2000XL for many years. So if you need to get down, it won't matter if it's a MPC or Desktop Computer.

Man, I've written entire songs using my car's turning signal as the metronome. Inspirations is emotions and it's always happening. If I'm mad, I get an angry song. If I'm hyped, the song may break your spine.

You seem to be confused. By your logic, staring at a microwave display is the same as staring at a computer screen.

Do you make music using a microwave? If yes, Please post up what you've created on it.

And no - the issue isn’t me or Fresh or anyone else that finds it more inspiring to work away from a computer DAW. But you know that already.

It's all about sitting down and making it happen.

Finds it more inspiring to work away from a computer DAW
= EXCUSES. I don't care if it's software daw, mpc, sp1200, guitar, toy piano, two spoons and a chop stick. Put in the work and make music.

So you have the MPC LIVE 2 right? Please share with us what you've created on it, with all your gained inspiration. :smoker:

Charles, is it remotely possible that you're glossing over the key part where I stated that I worked with DAWs on my computers for 20 years?

I've been making records since 1985, worked in some of New York City's best studios like Unique, Quad, Power Play, INS, Brooklyn Sound Lab, and Hit Factory long before Pro Tools became the first industry standard for the digital audio workstation.

I was using C-Lab Creator with my Atari 1040 ST computer before it became Logic, I was one of the first producers to embrace FL Studio, casting my MPC, SP-1200, ASR-10 and ASR-X to the side for what was then a new and exciting thing called a software synth back then.

For exactly 20 years out of a 35-year long career in the music industry, the only job I've ever had I worked every day behind a computer screen triggering a mouse without a vacation because my client base from gaming studios to indie filmmakers, YouTubers, to indie recording artists pays my mortgage, my bills, and my healthcare costs.

I never stopped working, because I can't stop working.

The point of my initial post is I no longer have to spend the majority of my day working in a DAW, the small screen on my MPC does not compare to the GUI of Studio One, or Reason or Logic or LUNA which spans to 2 computer screens in most cases because the MPC X is a totally different animal.

Not even close.

With the MPC X I'm just focused on creating music, nothing else, and I love that, it's the way I think it should be, just me my MPC X, my synthesizers and no extra bullish!t, that's it.

I'm exhausted, I'm hungry and I've been mixing all day long so please forgive me if I seem cranky...

No, I didn't gloss over it and I have an idea because of all the things you post about. Also my reply was not directed at you, if it was, I would mention you directly. Frankly, I don't do the whole passive aggressive unhanded jabs very well.

You know like I know, when it comes to gear. Things go in phases. Sometimes, it's the acoustic instruments recorded to tape, other times it's keyboard and mouse on a midi grid. All I care about is making the music and any tool I use, is going to get the job done.

As you know, waiting on inspirations is no way to make music. It's a DAILY GRIND and DAILY HABIT and it don't stop. It's a very big difference between doing music, when it fits your schedule and LIVING IT 100%. Man, I get mad when I start to get tired.

^^ THIS ^^

The frustrating part is that Charlie knows this, and he knows I only agreed with you and expounded with my own thoughts - but because Charlie is who Charlie is, he can't help himself to passively aggressively troll my posts. Because he's clearly got a massive crush on me.

Then why do what you do, Charlie? I mean seriously - you know what I meant, yet you can't help yourself to twist and distort the things people say. Really, it's sad. Do you think people actually like you? Do you think people actually respect you? Come on, seriously... lmao

I get what you're saying. When you're producing you gotta do what helps you the most.

Respect? Like? Why are you so concerned with what others think about me. The thing is, I LOVE TO SEE people succeed and win. I love to see people work their ass off and quiet all the non-believers. The thing is you assume I'm against you, but I'm not.

But as NAS said, “Much success to you, even if you wish me the opposite. Sooner or later we'll all see who the prophet is.” as Charles Randolph said, "WHERE IS THE MUSIC?"

Yes Fresh l know the feeling you just wanna hit that track and go. Clients been asking for sound design sounds so l need the tools that Akai don't have. But lm dealing with song writers and making tracks with the singer song writers. Plus l got my own stuff about to drop in a day now. So l need ABSOLUTE power.

But if you find yourself rockin to the X l understand.

I'm doing all my sound design with my synths and the MPC X, these days, but once I'm done in standalone mode I take it to software mode where I can do some extra stuff, then print it and mix it in studio one. The key for me is I can just focus on composing and arranging the music non-stop, then take it to the DAW for the final mix.
