It’s not as loud as I thought it would be, taking into consideration some YT reviews made it appear a lot louder. But it’s loud “enough” if that makes any sense? I find that I’m leaving it on by default so when I fire it up, I can quickly get started without having to fire up my studio monitors (which I keep on a separate power strip with a remote on/off). At the end if the day, of course I’d mix properly on my studio monitors, but the built-in is proving a lot more useful than I thought it would.

Sitting in the kitchen having morning coffee and on the patio is where it really comes in handy. It was 84F in the shade the other day, and wearing cans for any longer than 2 seconds was unbearable for me. But with the built-in speaker I was totally fine jamming while looking at the trees.

It definitely adds some weight, and is clearly larger than my original Live, but it’s not a deal breaker.

Basically, I’ll say this: it’s not a gimmick. Whether or not someone would find it useful is totally dependent on how they use their MPC, though.

Thanks for this... Would you consider them also to be usefull for ''monitoring'' like akai advertised?

I will never buy one but i am just curious..

Depends on how you define “monitoring”. Would I use them to mix on? Of course not. Would I use them as a test bed to hear how my mix sounds on a very popular platform (small BT-type speakers) to see if it works, then sure! But that’s like playing your mix in the car or over your typical house stereo. It’s just another platform to test on.

That's what I also thought.
I usually listen on Bluetooth speaker after I make mixing and mastering on REAL monitor speakers, since a lot of people listen music through bluetooth speakers nowaday.
So having that kind of speaker onboard makes sense.
Not anything that makes me think to sell my mk1 though.
I prefer a lighter and smaller product.
Is there anything that really makes you recommend mk2 instead mk1 apart from speaker?

If you have no need for CV out or the speaker, and the additional buttons don't seem like a big sell, then absolutely not. The additional size and weight is really noticeable.

That said, if you feel like your MK1 battery is starting to show its age, then that might be another positive about the 2, since the battery is brand new.
