Newbie Q: MPC One to Mixer's Tape IN/Out?

Hi - apologies for what's going to be a super rudimentary question but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.
I'm after a budget mixer so I've been looking at a Mackie https://www.andertons.co.uk/brands/mackie/mackie-402-vlz4-mixer
As you can see the Mackie only has limited Inputs and in my set up I'll have a MPC One and a Roland MC 101

So to get around this, do I configure the MPC One as a Tape machine so it has inputs/outputs to sample and play out?
Or do I wire it so the MPC One takes up the 2 Balanced Inputs with PreAmps and pan as a L/R path?

Or do I need to look at a different model of mixer to properly connect everything?

Describe what you want to do. There are many ways to configure and we cannot guess your intended use case. You might be able to do what you want with that gear...

Just connect the Mpc outputs and Mc outputs to the mixer with jack cables, pan them L/R and here you go.

I wouldnt use the tape returns, those are usually RCA and unbalanced connections. My outputs just go straight to channels 1-6 of my Soundcraft. My EMU is the next 8 channels and so on.. Mixer feeds my 24 channel DAW setup and goes into Logic. What model Mackie are we talking?

Assuming you are looking to run stereo out of both devices- then Don’t forget about line in 3/4 on the mackie. Either the MPC or the Roland can work on those inputs too. But quite honestly, if you already laid out that much $$ for your devices, then spend the extra bread and get a slightly bigger or better mixer. That little Mackie is too small to add any more devices later. Likely you’ll need to upgrade before long

To answer some of the questions I wondered if there was a solution to sample in sources without having to plug wires in/out al the time, however Monotremata doesn't think these would be great as they're not balanced.

I chose the model due to size, we have a small house and 2 small kids, so I didn't want to take over the place with gear so size budget is important.

Nowadays my whole studio is setup in a patchbay so I can sample whatever I want wherever I want, but I used to use aux sends on my mixer before that. The Mackie will probably only have 2, maybe 4, but if you're not using any outboard effects, you can use em to feed the MPCs inputs. That way you can send any mixer channel to the sampler you want. Just turn up the send knob.

Makes complete sense and sounds awesome. My daytime job is in film production and we once had an edit suite with a patch panel so I envy that convenience - ah one day!
