Guys (and potential but unlikely girls),

Please suspend disbelief and try to help me figure this... seems like it “should” work. Although I may not know of certain incompatibilities between CF and SD...

I am attempting to utilize the abundant SD card stock I already have. CF is foreign to me in Audio Land (photo friends have CF tho!). I’m new to mpc1k and this forum although I did search the recommended CF thread... I did see one guy who claimed to have an sd to cf adapter that worked. But I have not had the same pleasure.

I’m using a Komouterbay CF1 to SD adapter in the 1k with jjos free and also tried OS3 demo to see if it helped (it did not). I formatted an 8 gig SD (also attempted a 2 gig) both in the MpC and using a Windows PC. I even formatted the 8gig sd Into a smaller 4 gig partition as fat 16 before attempting to use it in the mpc.

Here’s what happens, regardless of OS, and apparently card brand/size:
The card loads fine at first, until I load samples into RAM. After about 5 samples (all named conservatively with no spaces etc...) the memory card suddenly disappears from the screen without displaying an error. Except for once, after installing os3 demo. It read “FAT error” but that no longer happened after I reformatted at FAT 16.

Any advice please.... I may opt to sell this dinosaur befor dropping $50+ on the hard drive mod. Seems like no matter what, there’s some bug or limitation in the 1k that makes it unusable or makes it look like an endless stream of “upgrades” and fixes....

The MPC's are very picky with CF cards. With finding the right adapter/ card combo it's probably just a case of trial and error, although I can remember Ill Green said to use both of the same brand to raise you chances on making it work.

Maybe you can also ask one of your photo friends to take over some of their old CF cards? I have Sandisk Ultra II 2GB in my MPC 500 which works perfectly. Had the 4GB version, but that one stopped working all of a sudden for no reason. I know 2GB maybe not that much, but more than enough to hold a decent sample library and some projects. Finished projects can later be backed up to clean up space on the card.

I can also really recommend you to drop the extra $ on the HD mod. Have one in my 2500, and imo really worth the investment. In case you might want to sell the 1000 in the future it will also really raise it's value.

Thank you kindly! I considered the HD upgrade. I'm having a minor ethical issue with the $50 adapter lol maybe I'll cave and do that one of these days.

In another thread I explained how you could hack it and make your own adapter. It still costs money in parts.

Also, the sd or micro sd cards that work best for me are sandisk and samsung. G skill too.

I really haven't had any problems with brands. I heard someone having trouble with a kingston but it could be user error.

Also, stay away from the fake micro sd cards on ebay. Buy from a reputable seller.

You can buy the cf card to sd card adapters on ebay from china but I have had trouble with at least two vendors having never received the item. So again, you might want to pay extra to buy from reputable seller.
