PSA: MPC Live 2 Decksaver is coming

Not sure if any of you MPC Live 2 owners out there are clamoring for a Decksaver, as the original for the Touch/Live MK1 doesn’t fit. Decksaver support just sent me this:

We are in development with the cover however the pandemic has slowed us down.

Hopefully someone will make a 3d printable version and share it. Those pieces of plastic are GROSSLY overpriced!

Totally! But I think you’ll be waiting in vain. Haven’t seen any 3D printed anything that effectively copies a Decksaver.

I just use a piece of cloth tbh.

I wrap it in Two Bath Towels in a Dufflebag and be about my way

Believe it or not. My way protects it better than a Decksaver, from Impact Damage....Especially if i drop it

That's what I resorted to for my System 8, as Decksaver doesn't make a cover for it and I can't find an actual keyboard cover that I like. That said, it's not perfect - the lint isn't something I'm fond of.

For travelling? I use a proper padded carrying case for that. I don't travel with the Decksaver - that's for use in my studio.

Oooooo so what is the Decksaver for? Dust protection?

I have mkI & luckily got a used one pretty cheap. But yes, I'm very surprised that no one has come out with a cheaper solution (*hint hint any techy music world entrepreneurs)
The decksavers might be expensive because theyre vacuum formed clear plastic made in the uk, but a similar item made on a 3d printer would be hella cheap to produce, maybe a little time consuming depending on your printer.
Hopefully we'll see less expensive options in the near future... Or just keep using towells, they basically do the same thing!

Yes, that and being able to show your blinky blinks off when your shit is powered on in your studio, but not being used while you jam out on something else.

Decksavers came about in homage to the old clear plastic covers that came on record players from the 70's and 80's, specifically to keep dust off of your gear while it sat waiting to be used:

Yeah, I use a beach towel for my Roland System 8. Like I said, it works - but the lint is still an issue. Cloth of any sort aside from microfiber or tightly woven polyester will leave lint and dust behind:

I'm a big fan of decksavers, I have them for the Live, Force and my turntables, they protect from dust, accidental damage and also let me happily pile random shit on top of my gear like headphones, note books, chargers etc.

Are they that expensive though in the general scheme of things considering the niche nature? And how many people spend around £15 on a little bitty case for their phone that's probably made from 20p worth of plastic?

Agreed... it's about the same cost to material... just feels cheaper because it isn't as much material

Imo, yes. Yes, they are expensive. They are $80. My thoughts are they make a decent niche product, have the vacuum/thermo-forming machines & have little to no competition & can charge that price. Their product is cheaper in europe because of shipping (& possible tariffs). & if you 3D printed your own it would cost you a few dollars... not $80. It just would not be a clear material.

The decksavers are a good product if you travel with your equipment although they offer no protection to the sides/rear of your gear. They are also a good product if you dont mind shelling out for a luxury dust repellant. Otherwise a towel will do the same job AND help prevent dust from entering the vents on the sides of your gear.
I believe the phone cases are ridiculously overpriced also! But that's, as they say, how they getcha.

After shelling out almost $80 USD for a Decksaver on my Live MK1 when I had it, I found that I didn't like travelling with it. I was always afraid i'd crack it! Just stuck to a padded carrying case instead.

I still hate using towels for gear covers. They look bad in a studio, and don't protect as well as you think (check the lint screen on your clothes dryer for details).
