What is this part?

Hey y’all,

I have a very old MPC 2000 that turns on, but doesn’t seem to do much else. I opened it up a couple days ago and have been digging around. I definitely need a new screen, but there’s also a piece that looks like it’s corroded. I thought it might be a battery but I don’t know what it would be for, and I can’t find it listed on any replacement part sites.

It’s the yellow piece in the picture. It’s probably working ok, since the MPC turns on at the very least, but I’d rather not have a corroded anything in there.

There are several yellow pieces on the power supply board.

Are you talking about the largest piece on the middle right? If so, that's the transformer and it looks like someone spilled soda on it.

Transformers are coiled wire, they don't really "corrode".

You won't find a drop in replacement part on sites for it.

Since you have the MPC opened up verify all the wire connectors are fully inserted. Also check your both RAM sticks contacts are clean and not corroded then reinsert them.

Yes, that’s the part I’m talking about, thank you! Lol interesting, I wonder what happened. Do you think that’ll be an issue if I don’t replace it?

Update: looks like I only have one RAM stick. Do I need two for function?
