MIDI port inconsistency between standalone and ctrlr modes

I just noticed a big problem with the MIDI port assignment in 2.8. I often switch between standalone and controller mode and every time I switch and load a project I've been working on in the other mode, the MPC's midi port assignment gets messed up.

For example, if in standalone I had a track assigned to MPC out A, in controller mode it gets reassigned to a greyed out "MPC live controller MPC MIDI port A" which obviously doesn't send anything out.

Am I missing something here? Is this a bug or a rather horrible "feature" ?

I read that from one user (Rcmusic35) on the Gearslutz MPC Live thread who had the same problem:

A pretty big one is that mpc software and hardware standalone do not use the same midi ports names. So if you import export projects between the two, you will have to reassign the ports each time. Rename them to match won’t fix the problem. With a big midi configuration it is really a pain.

Rcmusic35 is right about trying to rename the ports... I also thought it could have been the source of the problem, but I tried renaming and even if you try renaming the standalone ports to match the software port names, you still have to reassign the tracks.

Otherwise I can't find more info about it. The crazy thing is that it only seems to affect the physical MIDI ports of the MPC. I have other stuff, like an Arturia MicroFreak, that worked plug-and-play right from the start, and both software and standalone have no trouble keeping tracks assigned to that.

(I use a 1st generation MPC Live, BTW... I wonder if people using the Live II also get that problem)
