MPC Live freezes at Shutting Down / needs force power-off

Hello everyone, my first post here! New MPC Live user Hope I can help this community in the future.

I got my MPC Live MK1 in a great condition (barely used actually). It didn't power-on right away, probably because of battery being empty after years of not getting used.

I plugged it and turned it on. A message popped up saying the device has not been shut down properly last time... I wandered around a little, and tried to shut down the device, and it freezed on this screen:


SHUTTING DOWN...

I have to force power-off it, so every time it's turned on, the message pops up again saying you should shut down the device properly!

I updated the firmware to 2.8.1, also left the device plugged in over night to make sure it's not a battery thing. None helped.

Any ideas?

PS: I cannot reach out nor send my device to Akai. Give me home remedies

UPDATE!

I found out that the problem is POWER switch! No idea why! As soon as I press the power switch, the hardware buttons, pads, and controls freeze and only the touch screen works! Even if I cancel the confirmation for shutting down, it doesn't work again and I have to force-shutdown it to make it work again! Even weirder, If I push the power switch half way down, it happens anyways and hardware controls freeze, even if the power prompt doesn't show up (power switched not pressed).

I'm pretty sure it's something about the software, cuz everything else is working smoothly. Just the power switch makes the device act very weird!

I had the same issue maybe 3 to 4 times, and it only happens at a friends home, when we jam together. I don’t know what exactly causes it, maybe it is because the mpc is powered on for a very long time, sometimes it goes to „screensaver mode“, it gets a midi clock...

It's hideous! I can't power off my device, and I don't know how to fix this! As soon as I press the power switch, whether confirm the shut down or not, the controls and buttons freeze, even the tap light freezes... I'm so bummed

Is there any way to wipe the OS and fresh-install it? A real factory reset?

Remove all attached USB flash drives an SD card. If you have an SSD or HD installed remove that and see if that solves the issues. (DO THIS BEFORE YOU POWER IT ON.)

Have you tried using a real hardware MPC? Jk.

It sounds like maybe something is stopping the shut down process, as Charles suggests, it may be a connected drive or perhaps there's a corrupt preferences file (the MPC needs to write to this before shutting down).

You can perform a preferences reset in MENU > SETTINGS

I tried reseting preferences many times, didn't help.

Also there is nothing connected to the device.

For the sake of testing, I connected my external HDD to the device, and tried shutting it down. When I pressed the power switch, it happened again, everything freezes but the screen. Something to notice, this time this message popped up:



This probably happens when USB port disconnects. I guess power switch is doing something weird, maybe disconnecting power to the board for a very short time, or something like that!

So far I know it's not about shut down proccess, because if I turn on the device in Standalone mode and don't press and hold START button, it shuts down with no problem. Actually shutting down without pressing power switch works fine. If there was a software way of shutting down the device (like in pc) it would work fine, but the power switch is acting crazy!

What do you think?

How do you have this setting?

Power On Screen - Use this field to enable or disable the Power On Screen. When Power On Screen is enabled, the user will have to press and hold a location on the screen when powering on the MPC in order for it to completely power on. If the user does not press and hold the location on the screen, the MPC Live will automatically power off after about 30 seconds. Enabling the Power On Screen setting will help prevent the MPC's battery from draining in the event that it is accidentally powered on. The options for the Power On Screen setting are: Never, When On Battery, and Always. For the best performance on battery power, select When On Battery or Always.

Might be time to run some disk diagnostics on your attached disks... see if you might have a corrupted filesystem?

My suspicion is that the internal SD card (the 16GB one that holds the factory content) is failing.

Tried it before, didn't help, as expected.

I don't have any attached disks to or on this device. The SSD drive I ordered is going to arrive tonight, and now I'm a little affraid to install it! After all, I can't even turn my device off

Okay everyone, my best guess is faulty power switch! This is ugly, 'cuz I can't have it sent to Akai for repair and service. There is no Akai offices in my country.
