First off I'm using a vocal sample to create a keygroup. Got it loaded and chopped the way I'd like. Question arises around how keygroups treat the playback speed of a sample when it gets to higher pitches.

Why is it sped up as opposed to just being a pitch shift? Am I missing a button that turns that off?

In the software you can turn Warping on for your keygroups and it will timestretch the sample.

This is not available in standalone (even if you save a keygroup in the software with warp turned on, it won't warp in standalone).

I talked to Akai about this - with a keygroup you might playing many sounds at the same time and there isn't enough horsepower to warp all of the samples in standalone. Hopefully one day its addressed...

MPC-Tutor wrote:Yes, works fairly well in controller mode, so you can for example pitch a break across the keys - tempo stays the same, only the tuning is altered.

Record a sequence in controller mode hitting every key required sequentially.
Bounce it .chop it and send it to a drum program for standalone.

damn this is some bad news, I've tried making this work for so long.. there is no way to do it completely standalone then?

I can Warp a 16 levels in a Drum Program

Warp available for keygroup in standalone please Akai! Most of the time cpu would be no issue and users can just switch Warp off if cpu starts buckling and/or resample/flatten etc. ATM a lot of samples/Instruments are gonna suck in standalone Keygroup Vs desktop Keygroup...

I really can't see this happening, it must be a complete CPU hog and it's not really what that functionality was intended for IMO, it's just the reality of working in standalone mode, there has to be limits and one of the challenges of working in any hardware sampler is learning how to workaround the limitations.

I think you need to look at why you need to do this in the first place, what are you trying to achieve by timestretching individual samples across a keygroup? Is it necessary? Can you achieve it in other ways? For example in the OP, he's wanting to timestretch a vocal sample, but is there a reason that it must be performed in a keygroup program across a note range? Can he not just selectively timestretch individual samples as required? Or replicate in a DRUM program? Patch Phrase?

That's actually the fun part for me. Figuring out workarounds and coming up with new tricks to do stuff.

Ive been successful Warping A Sample in the 16 Levels. It'll keep the same tempo across the 16 pads!

That may be close as you're gonna get.

Just wanna be able to take single sample and use as playable poly Instruments or loops where pitched samples keep their original length across wider range than 16 levels...Microsampler/Ableton/Beatmaker 3 style.. Workarounds for this are vibe killers & life’s short :)

On one track/keygroup the cpu hit should be no issue on a keygroup with like 6-voice poly...no different from having warp active on 6 separate samples simultaneously..
