That's a retarded comment if I ever heard one... The pick of Eminem was part of his talent... Dre has that "golden ear"... Picking up Em was the talent the same way one of us findin that "perfect" sample for our tracks is our talent...

Hmmmmm? Retarded? OK.
I'm just looking at the history. He got Eminem after the first Aftermath album, after he worked with Dawn from Envogue. He was having a hard time getting the right artists to push forward his label. He even had Xzibit working with him.

My comments were in no way a diss. In bizness, you're only as good as your next sale. All this Dre talk means nothing if he ain't selling. Eminem guaranteed sales. Dre was reaching the downward curve at that time is his career. It happens to everybody. Eminem raised his stock way up. Dre was able to re-invigorate the audience's interest in himself. That's my point.

Peace.

MattMatiks PG wrote:Dre is a f*ckin genius when it comes to production... Say what you want and obviously I'm not gonna change anybody's opinion, but he is light years ahead of every other producer out there... He knows exactly what he wants from a project and does exactly what needs to be done to get it... He changes his style up to fit the MC he's producing, but at the same time he keeps a common sound or style so you always know it's a Dre track... He picks out his drums and is so nit-pciky about every aspect of the quality of his sounds... Sonically his beats are perfect... I'm even into that gritty East Coast sound, but his beats are clean and yet still grimey street sh*t...

Listen to the track with Mary J. Blige on The Game's album... That track is so different from anybody else's style and it's really creative and a great track musically speaking...

Like a few people said... He is a producer because he knows when to step back and let someone else shine...

Which brings up another point... Too many people on this site get the definition of a producer twisted... A producer is NOT someone who programs beats on an MPC, or lays out chords on a Triton. Sh*t, he may not even be the person who twists the knobs on the console...

A producer is a person who is in charge of the creative vision of a project... He books studio time, lines up studio musicians, hires engineers, and is in control of how the project sounds, whether he does that or he simply gives his input to the engineer or mastering engineer...

Dr. Dre is by this definiton probably the most comprehensive producer in the game right now... I mean honestly you think Bob Rock writes all the music for Metallica or plays their instruments... You think all these rock and soul producers do everything... F*ck NO... Are they any less of a producer... F*ck NO...

I mean if you ain't feelin his style that's a nother story... But too many people hate on the man cause they think he isn't a "real" producer... Thats probably the weakest argument I ever heard...

Also, check The Game's album cause that album is a hip-hop classic from start to finish... If everybody had those standards for their music... Hip-hop wouldn't be in the sad state that it's in right now...

Well Said Matt!!!

i dont really consider his style complex... yeah he has a nice sound (ear) but the drum patterns and melodies arent that complex at all...

I didn't mean to come at you or nothing (if that's the way you took it)... It seemed like what you said was a dig at him like you were almost minimizing the discovery if Em as nothing more than pure luck... Just a misinterpretation on my part.... My bad...

No problem Matt.
I'm just worn out with the Dre worship. I knew with those NWA albums that he was bad and that was years ago. I ain't into everything he does, but everything he does has that particular sound quality and clarity and power. That's the truth. It's clear he puts in work. For somebody to disregard that is just their loss. But in the scheme of things, he's just one of many, many, many brilliant Black musicians who have made awesome music in America. And I guess that's where the worship becomes a problem.... at least for me.

Peace to you all.

good stuff, for real. i dunno about Game's album being a classic 'cause in my opinion dude is weak, but i'll try to peep it for the production alone.

I thought dude was weak too until I heard his album... Definitely some classic sh*t... Gangsta, but clever... It pays homage to the old-school and the pioneers while not getting stuck up on that so it still has that new school vibe to it... And his gives reference to Pac and sh*t, but doesn't ride his d*ck or try to replace him like many others do... He just does himself and makes his own place in hip-hop... I definitely think it's a classic...

No. It's about fans. I think it's from the first album and there's also a remix on "Kill At Will."

"No Vaseline" WAS a dis track aimed at NWA from the Death Certificate record.

DRE is A "Producer" Not A "Beatmaker" and Between Mel-man and Scott Storch and Various Others alot of Head Noddin' has Been Produced

The Olny Thing bout Dre I Don't Dig IS His Posing on Sampling.............

that's almost Unbearable a HUGE cache of VINYL MPCz For Every Finger...
even Various Of "DUSTY FINGERS" Notorius sampling Comp...........

But I Really Don't Sample That Much ......Dre Needs 2 Stop That ............

Maybe He's Shook due to the "Truth Hurts n THX" clearence/non-clearence wibbles...............

I Did LUV Alot of that Ol Snoop Stuff tho'
