volume and mixing tips

hello mpc commmuniy !!!
need some advice for mixing on my mpcx

when your workng on a beat to show people or put on youtube (not to a studio for a artis to record their vocals on ) do you set your volumes so the loudest part of your beat doesnt pass 0db ? i hear for sending the beat to an artist to lay down their track it should not pass -6db. but what about for promting it in other places ?

and also how to you approach your mix when setting the vloume do you turn your master all the way up or do you turn it down and just look at the green meter bar and make sure each sound is hitting a certain number ?

I can recommend picking up a book or reading tutorials about mixing!

A nice tip i can give you from it as a teaser is first to start from your foundations kick/Bass.I set my kick for example at around -9dB to -15dB on the mixer depending on the kick of course.And as a general rule of thumb don’t hit the red zone on your master channel.

Without hearing your music. I suggest

0. Mix at moderate levels.
1. Mix it until it sounds good to your ears.
2. Keep the total MIX Master Meter at peaks -2 db (Top)
3. If it's for two track vocals: -6 db. Since you're going back to mix it any way.
4. Always mix by your ears not by numbers.
5. Take ear breaks

Keep in mind this is a demo, not the final version. So they just need to hear where it's at, because good compositions will shine even in the demo stage.
