PLEASE HELP (with realtime pitch control)

Ok, I'm trying to lay a sample (one that already has a backbeat) with a beat that I made on a seperate track.

I want to be able to "mix" in the sample with the slider. So I set the Q-Link for one of the sliders for pitch control of the "program" (mainly because I can't figure out a way to do it to the sample) and then adjust the slider as I overdub. I figured I would keep doing it until I get the right pitch but what happens is everytime it's done overdubbibing, the Q-Link setting reverts to the initial pitch which is driving me mad.


PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone help me with this because I am going to be doing a lot of sampling and if I can't figure out this then I've got no hope. PLEASE ADVISE! THANKS!

You can't record Q-link adjustments like that. What you need to do is assign the Q-link's knob/slider to a CC controller number. Then in your program use the mod matrix to assign that controller number to the parameter you want to control.. Pitch or whatever it is. Then you can overdub the Q-link settings as they will be recorded in the sequnce as CC controller events.

The great thing about having your Q-link sliders and knobs set to CC controller numbers like this, is that they can be used to adjust different parameters in each separate program. So in one program you could have the knob's controller numbers set to control an ADSR envelope with the sliders set to cutoff and resonance, and for another program the knobs could be set to control fx sends with the sliders set to control pitch or something. And then any live Q-link adjustments can be recorded to the sequence like anything else. Very versatile! They let you do so much more within just one multi.

Thanks for the reply and I'll go give it a shot. There definately is a lot more things to figure out on this thing then there is on the other MPC's but that means, like you said, more versatility and flexability. I love this thing even though on a couple occasions I have been going a tad nutty. All in all, it's not really as tough to learn as some people made me believe. Thanks for the help because the manual sux.
