the next step........

easy,
i had my mpc a few months now and im gettin to the point where my beats are sounding ok and people are wanting to lace them.....
now how do i go bout this....
i understand i need a condensor mic but im not sure how this will fit into the overall scheme of things....ie do i record to my computer with something like CEP or do i require some form of external hardware to record to .. i heard something bout "real time hardrives" or something......


i also need to mix my beats down better.... i understand this is where the 8 outs come in handy..... how do i do this.... do i need an 8 track mixing desk or can i simulate this on the computer...

sorry if this all sounds retarded

nah CEP wil work fine. thats what I use since I have all my gear outboard and dont need to do anything in the pC but record.
midi sync the mpc and PC so they record in sync, run the lines and records each mpc track to one in cool edit, should work fine.

do i need a better soundcard for that .. i dont think mine is even full duplex.... is it worth investing in a better one ......

also with regards the mic would i hook that shit up straight to the sound card?

if you get a condenser mic, you'll need to give it power. this is called phantom power. i wont get technical on you but i'll just say you have to have something to power that mic with. that something is a preamp. sometimes though you can get a soundcard that has phantom power. so explore those possibilities. but, it kinda sounds like you're just getting started with all this so maybe you should ust a get a dynamic mic like a shure 57 or 58. for less than a hundred bucks you get a great all purpose dynaminc mic that you can record pretty much anything with and you dont need to power it. you can just plug it in to your sound card. of course it will sound better with a preamp, and with a condenser, but take your time. learn the basics with the low end stuff first and move your way up. of course if you got mad loot go get a neumann and neve preamp and start cutting vocals!
