Support and discussion for all of Akai’s modern standalone MPCs including the MPC X / X SE, MPC Live 1, 2 & 3, MPC One / One+, MPC Key 37/61.

I’m dealing with a serious nightmare situation. One day randomly my MPC live 2 started malfunctioning in 3 specific ways

1) In sample edit mode, not only is the sound I’m editing triggered by pressing the A1 pad, but whatever sound is programmed into A1 on the actual program continues to play simultaneously as whatever sound I’m trying to edit. And yes if there are sounds on the other pads they trigger. In fact, if I program a sound on A1 and B1 they PLAY AT THE SAME TIME.

B) Soundbanks B, C, D buttons trigger sounds as well as the OVERDUB, stop and play buttons. Occasionally, after multiple uninstalls and reinstalls, the q-link buttons would also trigger sounds. When the q-link buttons triggered sounds, the pad triggered would light up, for instance, the top q-link would trigger the A1 pad, the 2nd A2, etc. Also, some of these uninstalls and reinstalls would somehow make it impossible to save. That has resolved itself thus far, but still, when it was happening, it was uniquely terrible.

c) when attempting to record in an eight bar loop if I trigger the same sound twice in a loop all of a sudden the red blocks indicating the length and point in the sequence the sounds I triggered are would overlap and become EXTREMELY long, also, it just won’t record the second half of the any eight bar sequence. Yes, everything between bar 5-8 never registers. It’s maddening.

The only thing I can think I did that precipitated this is use automation ONCE for the first times in my years of using this newer MPCs. For reference, I have had, and therefore installed the Touch and Live 1 on this exact computer, but deleted all the other drivers. In all those iterations of the MP I never used automation.

Here’s where it gets crazy. After weeks of back and forth with AKAI they sent me a new one and lo and behold, the problem is PERSISTING. It is literally fraying the edges of my sanity. If I could insert videos into these passages I would, but seriously, I need help. I’m going to try a reset of the settings which I haven’t done, but I’ve also seen something about private/public modes? Where are these settings?

For the record it doesn’t make the situation inoperable, just seriously damaging to my workflow, so much so, it makes me not want to work half the time, and when I do work I’m miserable. That ain’t right. Also, no, this problem doesn’t seem to be happening in standalone, but that’s not ok. I use controller mode. I want controller mode. I should be able to have and use controller mode

Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, for what it’s worth, AKAI is stumped.
Either way, thanks for reading

Sorry. I’m running a 15 inch 2017 MacBook Pro with 2.2 GHz 6 core intel chip i7, 16 Gigs of memory and an Intel UHD graphics chip. My operating system is Catalina.

UPDATE: After scouring this forum I saw someone was having a somewhat similar problem with the q-link knobs and they turned off the Public and private midi channels and that FIXED everything! The Sample edit, pad bank and sequencing issues! Simultaneously!

What are these channels exactly? Can anyone tell me about them?

Wow - and Akai didn't think to recommend you try that before sending you a new MPC Live 2?! Very likely your first one was fine.

Oh absolutely. To my firm discredit, I didn’t think to check this forum. The post about someone’s q-links was my saving grace, so shouts to that man. I’ve learned my lesson unquestionably. I’m better off taking my problems to the people lol

I'm glad this board is here, because even with some sh*t talking the problems usually get solved. Akai's help line seems useless most of the time.

What on earth are the "public and private" midi channels and where do you enable/disable them? I don't believe they exist in my Live.

Can you tell me how I turn off these midi ports? I can’t find public or private. My mpc one is doing this exact same thing
