Can you plug an akai mpd32 & play a drum/clip program with the MPD pads instead of the FORCE’s 64pads?
Ableton makes MIDI mapping relatively simple, how about the akai force ?
Like my roland MV, I want the MPD pads to always represent a MIDI note while the FORCE 64 pads are for clip/scenes.
Hi DokBrown - you can plug a midi controller in and play a drum track using that controller, while the Force's pads are used to launch clips. You must select the track you want to play using the Force, though - there doesn't appear to be any way to lock a controller to a track, or even filter midi input - any midi input seems to be sent to the track currently selected.
I've done this with a MPD218 and it works nicely for drum tracks.
So in short, yes, but without the level of midi filtering and configuration which Live allows. This does make it a bit clumsy for live play if you want anything more than a really simple setup - probably just one drum track you want to play. For example, you can't change the drum track you are playing by changing the midi channel on your controller, or have two controllers each controlling a different track.
So, for example, if you're playing live and you've selected a synth plugin track so that you can change some setting (e.g. the filter) then you hit a pad on your MPD, that will play a note on the synth, not a drum note. You have to remember to select the drum track before you hit that pad.
Also, if you launch a clip by hitting that pad, Force selects that track, so you will need to re-select your drum track before you touch your MPD again.
There's a hint that this may improve in future, since there's a setting for midi channel in the synth plugin settings, but it doesn't seem to currently do anything. Force really needs this capability, and it shouldn't be difficult to implement, so let's hope

Hope I'm helping! I'm new to Force, so having to put the effort in to learn it.
