Digging Poll

When you people go digging do you:
a) Look for your favorite artists
b) Look for wacky shit (i.e. children's records)
c) Look for records that major label artists used (i.e. jay-z)
d) Bring your portable turntable and listen to anything that grabs your attention

I mostly go towards the cheap records. My store got a "5 for $1.99" deal and a "Buy 10 get 10 free". So you can get 20 records from there for about 5 bucks. Then I just look around and buy random stuff from the more expensive things. I think I should use their listening station more often.

yes - I bring a portable - how could u not?

and I look for ...

1- who the vinyl is produced and arranged by (sometimes the artist may be unheard of or wack but the production and arrangement is hot! also - sometimes certain instruments are played by great artists, but the artist on the cover itself may be wack

2 - is the group black? yes? oh! I'm buying it!

3 - dope album cover design (hot covers=creative artists)

4 -i look at what label puts it out (Blue Note? CTI? Old CBS?)

How you gonna calll yourself the beat conductor. I would really like to know.

I've been talking to local record dealers in letting me bring my portable turntable in, but no go. These fools don't realize how much money they will make and also clear out some of their records that have been sitting for years.

Back to the question... A,B, and C. And I look for the producers and musicians on the record.

i go by covers... stay away from soul cuz everyone is on that... look for foreign shit.(ie asian, spanish, greek etc._)

I know i sound like a q*eer putting my username as The Beat Conductor. But I'm a HARDCORE fan of madlib and his music. I respect him a lot because he does his own thing.

I dig for all kind of records. I usually pick them based on the cover or if I know some of the players. I'll also check for certain labels. I bring the portable turntable ever where they will let me (a couple of stores fronted).

Me Myself I've Done All of the Above .......Except 4 C and D on that list....

I Do Check Labels Prolly most of All.......CTI ..... Parrot ..... Old MGM etc.

I usually look for artists that I know and somethimes I will check something out based on the name or cover art and sometimes you find a gem that way

I think D is the stupidest thing you could do [no offense to any one that does]. If you sample off a record that a producer has already used, your result is going to probably be the same. When I go digging, I try to find the MOST RARE and RAW records, because the chances are that no one or not too many people own that record. And the result is something NEW. Too many people now a days are sampling the same things...REPETITION.

IT'S BETTER TO DO YOUR OWN THING

Thats true but one person could have a set of samples and make a masterpeice and another person could have that same set and make garbage. I think its more what you can do with the samples rather than where you got em from.
