Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi there

Apologies if this question has been asked a million times before...

I am trying to hook up my MPC2000 to an external iomega 100 zip drive.

The drive in question has both parallel and scsi ports in the back of it and obviously I am trying to use the scsi port to hook it up with my MPC.

However, when I try and get the MPC to recognise it, it just comes up with 'wait...' and goes no further.

Is it the case that this drive will not work, and that I need a zip drive that is solely scsi?

Or is it more likely that the hardware is faulty?

Any help would be much appeciated.

Thanks,
David

hook-up your external floppy thru the scuuzy port - WHILE BOTH UNITS ARE OFF - make sure that the scuzzy has termination on and is switched to a port (usually 5 or 6) ... then - plug-in the scuzzy ... turn-on the MP and see what-up - if you have to - wait 10 min - if it still tells you to wait - then shhiitt - you need a new drive (ebay - like 15 bux)- but if it reads (hope it does) go and format your drive and go from there - good luck

i never knew they did both scsi and parallel zip drives. I always knew that the extra parallel port was for adding a scanner or printer so you can chain em if you only got one parallel port on ya pc.

anyway good luck.

Thanks for that. Yeah I think you're right. Even though the port is 25 pin, and it fits my scsi lead, I think it will only serve as a printer out.

So I have given up with that zip drive and I've successfully hooked the zip drive up to my PC instead.

Off to ebay to look for one that will work with the MPC.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks so much for your help. However, there are no switches at all for termination etc.

Anyway, I've concluded that this drive is basically a parallel drive and it ain't gonna work with the MPC.

But I'll definitely take your advice when I find the right zip drive.
