That's like asking me when will Akai get rid of ALL the bugs from their updates! :smoker:

If he used paypal he can send A LINK of his receipt or his credit card.

If Akai don't answer then, they are avoiding you.

Great, but they don't get paid to give customers support on Akai products, nor do they have the technical point of view that Akai reps do.

My reply was concerning the pre-sale questions. So instead of acting like an assumptious sarcastic kid, be nice. We're just trying to help. Save all the emotions and sent a hate-mail to akai or whatever.

Yes, it's often just the hardware serial, but it isn't uncommon to have to confirm actual purchase date and retailer by uploading a receipt, but this is normally when you are specifically registering for warranty purposes (for example Roland ask for a receipt to get the 3 year warranty). A lot of manufacturers will only provide warranty support if you purchased the product via 'official' retailers specifically within your country (i.e. no grey imports, no ebay, no second hand etc).

But IMO if Akai want proof of purchase they should be asking for it at the time of original product registration, then if you make the support request directly through your customer account all those fields are pre-filled on the support form.

But as the OP states, if you are going to ask for this info, at least accept all image file types. But their bug reporting form is equally frustrating, it doesn't accept any attachments and limits the amount of characters you can submit, so basically you can't send them computer crash reports or screenshots of any issues.

I agree, but what I get from the OP, he just wants SUPPORT, he's not talking about a warranty. But as he said they should be able to accept his file. Again he should send them a link. He can use:

www.Imagehousing.com

Pick the link that will fit in an email and they can click on, ain't no hiding from that. If they don't answer after that then you know what's up with Akai.

Technical support (for a Bug), can be just as involved as a warranty claim. It can cover a wide range of problems and there's no real way for the company providing support to know before hand. If the problem requires them to try and reproduce the bug or issue the time investment for them isn't trivial. Thus the serial number/registration/user account requirements.

I totally empathize with the customer when there are technical issues with their electronic devices. But I also understand that companies trying to address such issues don't exactly have it easy. Imagine the range of issues a user might submit:

"My pads on the MPC don't match the screen"

to

"My operating system doesn't recognize my device when I connect it via USB".

to

"Touch display isn't responsive in certain menus"

Two of those can clearly be user error, but might take a significant amount of time to troubleshoot. Some customers might even have a different product for another manufacturer entirely. I certainly would want to reduce the number of requests that required human attention and payroll dollars. The way the forms are setup online might seem like a lot of hoops to jump through, but it probably provides faster/better service than just getting flooded with a ton of uncureated emails.

I say the serial # is more important than a receipt. The serial actually shows you bought the item because the serial is unique.

But lets clear it up.

How many have gone to Akai support and was told to send a receipt of purchase?

I'll be the first, l have never been told that, just a serial, name, etc, no proof of purchase.

To whom?

A receipt and a serial number can serve very different functions depending on the
situation.

Danoc wrote:The serial actually shows you bought the item because the serial is unique.

This is not true. I can steal an item and would have a serial number for said item. It doesn't mean I purchased it.

This is why a receipt is sometimes referred to as "proof of purchase".
Receipts will provide information not provided by a serial, such as how long you've had the item, where you purchased it, the value of the item.. etc.

The nature of your inquiry will determine which bits of information they require you to provide. Details such as your Country, the product line, and purchase date might also impact your customer service experience. By design, not everyone's case will be handled the same.

As I said before, it may seem like an inconvenience, but in many instances providing the requested information in its entirety will often establish a legal requirement for them to respond to you. That is to say, you're helping yourself.

@Ken what you said sounds great but my experience since 94' l can count on one hand ME getting my purchase receipt. NEVER EVER for support.

That's why l asked how many has gone through this with Akai.

So l ask Ken have you ask for Support from Akai and what did they tell YOU? And what format did you send it if you did.

Im just hoping Akai isn't pulling dude leg.

The moment you select 'Technical Support' from their contact form dropdown it requires a proof of purchase. Interestingly it does this even if you select MPC2000XL or MPC4000. I of course don't believe for one moment that Akai should or would be providing any tech support for the MPC2000XL :)

I assume Akai are swamped and have quickly added the proof of purchase option to their form to reduce the number of spurious support requests they are receiving.

Yep you're right. Akai ask for proof of purchase. But not to many companies do.
I even put in a "jpep" pic and ut worked with ease.

So l don't know why dude can't upload a pic of his receiptdudGlad l don't have to worry about an Akai product. I have the LPD8 and its plug and play and hasn't fail me.

There's also a shitload of Lives, Ones, Xs, even Live 2s on the used market already, and warranty support does NOT transfer from owner to owner, it lives with the person who bought the unit and nobody else. With them supposedly cutting staff, makes perfect sense to prioritize the customers that do get warranty service as opposed to those they're going to take 20 minutes just to tell them "Sorry call the local service center you're out of luck". My job I just left last week dealt with ALOT of this. Something like you buy a newly refurbished home, the previous owner bought one of our stoves or a range hood for the remodel. You're all moved in and now you need service on it. You're assed out, you didn't buy it, the "receipt", even if you have it, has the previous owners name on it, not yours. There's also plenty of second hand and 'liquidation' stores that buy up returns/refurbs and sell them as well. Those are considered 'unofficial' retailers, and also void a warranty even if it was new. We can tell those ones right away when we get a receipt and its half the price of the same appliance at Home Depot. No clue where they bought it from, where its been, why it was an 'open box' item to begin with, etc. Retail is some tricky shit nowadays.
