MPC ONE Problem updating to 2.8

Downloaded the USB update, used a 4gb thumb drive formatted to exfat (recommended by Akai) MPC says there is a problem with the update file. Tried 2 thumb drives and 2 sd cards all the same issue.

Tried using the updater software, throws an error "more than one device detected". I unplugged all USB devices except my mouse and keyboard and still get the same error. Tied 2 cords. Anyone else have problems with installing the 2.8 update?

- try downloading the update again
- try a different computer

Are you sure you're doing it right, i.e. dowloaded the right file? There are 2 ways to update: 1) via a file that you put on a USB drive / SD card, 2) using a computer and USB cable connection. Each uses a different file.

totally sure I'm using the correct files
USB mode says "error with file"
update app mode says "more than one device connected" or "Plug mpc power supply in"
trying a 3rd computer right now.

No dice.
Problems persist whether I update to 2.8 or 2.8.1
I'm not the original owner. So I guess I'm screwed for a while
