Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000
By godscent Fri Jan 28, 2005 7:32 pm
got my 4k a week ago and been doin some homework
with the manual. today i felt ready to experience the aksys
but when i checked out the cd i got with the machine i noticed
that 2.53 didn´t support mac osX so i downloaded version 2.61
wich is supposed to support it.

when i started aksys it found my mpc but when i tried
to edit a sound it told me to choose sample editor.
when i did, nothing happened so i tried all over a couple of
times but it was the same story everytime.
i want to use protools as my editor but maybee thats not
possible?
in that case, any good tip of a program to use
instead of protools?
also, is there a manual for aksys available somewhere?

mpc 4k os1.6
mac os 10.3.7

HI, Good to see you!

once you selected the editor in Ak.Sys, then when you double click on a sample to edit it,
it should launch the external program. It's just doing nothing when you double click?

A common editor the Mac's is Bias Peak. But you can also choose recycle, but it has more
limited editing functions (but neat other ones!)

Here is the link to the Ak.Sys manual off the US site:

Enjoy your new machine.

i m neither mac nor protools user so i can't really tell ya bout that ... i use a pc and used soundforge and wavelab once .... somethin should work ...
the aksys manuals you should find at akai int
http://www.akaipro.com/int/download/aks_dload.html
if not there than at the german (abbendums i guess are all in english ...)
http://www.akai-pro.de/downloads/manuals.html

and for the best sample editor: in my honest opinion its already there in your 4k ...

thanks for your replies, i feel very welcome here!

yes renegadebliss,
it's just doing nothing when i double click.
been restarting and changing cables like a maniac, doesn´t
help.

"and for the best sample editor: in my honest opinion its already there in your 4k"
well altopiano, i´m an old protools user so the best thing would of course
be protools, if not that i think i will stick to something with a mouse
attached to it. i really like what i´ve been seeing so far with the 4k
but i must say, i´m 20 times faster with a mouse in my hand.
but hey, i didn´t buy the machine to get faster, i bought it to
get better results.

well, i´ll keep on trying with my aksys stuff and se if i can sort it out.

You could use "recycle" if you want to chop some loops and apply basic DSP personally i also use "sample manager" 49$ and it's a great tool to batch samples, convert format, find loop points, apply AU, trim etc...it really is a jack of all trade without being a headache
you can find it here :

i downloaded sample manager and it worked fine
to choose it as my sample editor. it seems like its not
possible to run pro tools as the editor, thats a shame.

thanks for all your tips
