Who uses this bloddy Q-link sequence and how ?

I would bet that only a few of us uses it .Qlink sequence seems to be the obscure side of the MPC4K am i right ?
So yes i read the manual but it doesn't give a clue or exemples on what can i do with it !
In what situation is it nice to have a Q-link sequence running with your song or sequence ? and how the hell do you use it ?

Well I use it for creating sequences that modulate all sorts of stuff.

Quick and easy explanation to get quick result.

- Make sure you've created a multi and assigned parts and so.
- Go to Qlink setup
- Setup Qlink1 to pitch of part1
- play with the knob to check if it works.

- go to Qlink sequence
- adjust the step setting for the rythmical density of the sequence steps
- go to the field below which is your stepscounter
- press F3. (Q1 on)
- press the Qlink sequence button. top black button next to the pads (&) to turn on and off the Qlink sequencer.

- select a step and turn Q1 setting
- select another step and turn it again... and so on
- you get the concept?

Okay now a step further.
Go to Qlink > send and select a controller number instead of qevent.

Now you can record all kinds of sequences using the qlink sequencer again and again. it can be pretty cool!

Hey that's funny, I just noticed that the qlink sequencer has a one tick latency when recording to a sequence. Not that you would notice
But it seems a bit strange that an internal regulated proces like that would suffer from a latency at all. At least it is jitterfree

I can't speak on other users, only myself, but QLink was one of the excellent features
that really caught me on the MPC 4000. I use it extensively.
It's one of those nice features that no other
sampler has (as far as I know, z4/z8 have Qlink but not Qlink sequence). It can really
bring your sequences and sounds alive.

Basically, Akai was smart enough to put a 6 x 16 step sequence "added" on to the machine.
If you're familiar with Analog step sequencers, you will immediately know the benefits that
a step sequencer can provide. You can use it to sweep the filter cutoff or resonance.
You can use it to rhythmically change the Envlope settings, the pitch of the sample, the
lfo speed , what ever you see on the Modulation destination list! It has helped me reduce
my live show to just a few rackmount analog's because, I am able to get dynamic and changing
samples of my analog. Plus it let's you tweak it all in Real time. Feels like you are "playing"
the music sometimes.


Between using Qlink for rhythmically changing the internal parameters of a program,
you can also use it to rhythmcially tweak your FX as well. The combination of the two
are quite nice

interesting findings on the one tick latency bleepfreak - never been aware of ...

imo qlink sequence is amazin - bleep descirbed it all already ... just wanted to ad external gear here ... coz imo qlink seq is a feature with wihich your 4k makes even your external gear do things which otherwise wouldn't really be possible ... check it out if ya have an external module ... its done via cc aswell ... the knob movements or knob-jumps i can do on my virus via qlink seq i couldn't do without ...

Yeah you could be right Dave. I'll file it...
Maybe it's an "off by one error".

Good looking Alto forgot about the external gear part...

a good exsample and I use this quite alot is to say do a crazy pitch seq on your bassline, run it dry in say a 8 bar pattern before a break,
loop the end of your 8 bar & record the q seq on only the last bar..
then your straight bassline goes wild on the last bar just before you hit the break, it's a very nice tool to "break it up" here and there in your pattern, make it a habbit to use, its a very strong feature !
