Hi everyone.

I have some experience with daws but am new to the mpc world. Just bought my first mpc (one). Firmware version is 2.8.1.
I have a strange problem when trying to convert a song to a sequence.

Made six different sequences which all contain the same tracks and programs. The tracks are muted differently to achieve variations.
I created a new blank sequence afterwards which has some fill sounds on a track with a drumprogram I created with several one shot samples which are triggered during a two bar sequence.

And here comes my problem:
I created a selection of that six sequences in song mode. After the first two sequences there should be a buildup with the intro sequence I created.
When playing back the song in song mode everything works fine. The intro sequence sounds like it should. Now when I convert the song to a sequence and let that sequence play in main view the intro sequence has totally wrong programs triggered.
Instead of triggering the samples from the intro drumprogram the midinotes seem to trigger the main drumkit of my project instead :WTF:

Double-checked everything and have no idea why it's behaving like that.

Any similar experiences or ideas what to do would be much appreciated :worthy:

Your intro sequence has a different track order then your other sequences. There is no other option then making sure that different tracks are not overlapping in your sequences. Just keep in mind track order next time and start at an empty track which is also an empty track in other sequences. Kinda a hassle but you'll get used to it.

This could be it. I will keep it in mind for future projects. Thx.
I will try to copy the track to another index and see if it helps. Had an internal error reboot several times yesterday. Maybe the project got corrupted.

You guys experiencing internal errors with 2.8.1 more often than before? Had quite a few since I have the One.

Ok, thx. Maybe I was just unlucky.
Fixed my problem with the intro btw.
It really helped to move that track to a different index. Now it triggers the right program. I must have missed that part in the manual where it says you can't assign track numbers which are already used by other instances in other sequences.
Now that I know I will keep it in mind. Thx again guys. :worthy:

Well you technically *can* do it, but then you get the result that you experienced, which... is definitely sub optimal, and even documented it is kind of hard to explain to somebody not to take an action when they wouldn't know not to do it in the first place.

Kind of like not telling people not to hit themselves with a hammer... it seems obvious if you've done it before... but sometimes the best you can do after somebody complains hitting themselves with a hammer is to say "yeah, you probably should stop doing that"

Sorry for all the double negatives...

2.8.0 is solid for me.

I really wonder if my initial problem is a bug. The thing that makes me think this way is that my intro sequence is played back correctly as long as I select the intro seq in main view or listen to the selection in the song mode.
It only triggers the wrong tracks if I listen to the converted songmode-sequence in main view. So I would assume that the midinotes get written to the wrong track while converting to sequence.

I really hope this gets fixed or has it always been like that? Sure I can keep it in mind but it would be more convenient if you could assign already used track numbers in new sequences. Or at least greying out the tracks in the selection that are already in use would be helpful.

Every mpc when converting song to seq uses the track assignments of the very first seq in the chain. This is in every mpc manual that I’ve read.

Make sure every seq has the EXACT same track assignments BEFORE converting.

Seq1...trk1/kik, trk2/snr, trk3/hhat, trk4/openhat, trk5/horn, trk6/toms
Seq2...trk1/kik, trk2/snr, trk3/hhat, trk4/openhat, trk5/horn, trk6/toms
Seq3...trk1/kik, trk2/snr, trk3/hhat, trk4/openhat, trk5/horn, trk6/toms
Seq4...trk1/kik, trk2/snr, trk3/hhat, trk4/openhat, trk5/horn, trk6/toms

Naming tracks can definitely help here... but for the OP you really need to check that the programs are the same.

Well, that's not my workflow but I will try it like that maybe. I usually would not assign a track for each sound of the drumkit I made. I would have the whole rhythm on one track and a variation on another. On sequence A track1 would be muted while on sequence B it would be track 2 that is muted while track 1 plays.

I still think it is a bug.

Otherwise tell me why it is playing correctly when I let it play in songmode?
Following your Logic this should not be the case. What benefit would it have that it works different when converting in song mode compared to playing back the songmode selection while in songmode?
Sry for all the songmodes

As I said, the programs are not wrong. It is playing back correctly when I select the sequence in main view.
It only becomes a problem when converting from song mode.
Btw just stumbled into something else. I get nasty latency issues when I use Air Non-Lin Reverb on my drumtracks insert. It shifts the whole drumtrack a few milliseconds back compared to the other tracks. The delay/desync is gone as soon as I bypass the Reverb :?
