I can almost imagine a future where they run the exact same software in standalone as they run on the PC... and then the hardware is just adding some dedicated controls through standard API functions. At least when I think about it that way it seems like a more straightforward way to develop so that the software and hardware/standalone units can have the same functionality and allow both to consistently import and export midi.
I'm probably dreaming though.
