***MPC X - Internal SSD Maximum Size***

**** IF THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY POSTED, DISCUSSED AND FIGURED OUT - MY SINCERE APOLOGIES TO ALL - I WAS UNABLE TO FIND THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE BY SCRUBBING THE FORUM - WITH THAT SAID, THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME ****

I recently purchased and installed a Samsung 870 QVO 2TB Internal 2.5" SATA III SSD in my MPC X. Once the drive was detected by my MacBook Pro, I was able to Erase and Format it to XFAT without incident. As long as the MPC X is in controller mode; the new SSD is detected and I am able to READ/WRITE to this drive.

However, once I eject the drive and go back into StandAlone mode. No dice. The drive is not detected/displayed as a storage option on the MPC screen.

In two different videos, Andrew from Akai stated that the MPC X was compatible with drives of this type up to 2TB. I am thinking - that may not be accurate.

I also attempted to get help from Akai Support but no response from them after two and a half weeks.

Any recommendations ...?

format your drive in the mpc in standalone and write again if it works..

So, here is some more background information, that may have gotten missed and all done prior to your suggestion:

MACBOOK PRO - Latest OS installed

1. Brand new Samsung 2TB Internal 2.5" SATA III SSD installed into my MPC X
2. MPC X turned on and put into Controller mode from Standalone mode
3. Drive was NOT initially readable - selected INITIATE to mount the drive
4. Opened Disk Utility application
5. Erased and Formatted new SSD to ExFat format (5 times)
6. Ejected drive (5 times)
7. Put MPC X into Standalone mode from Controller mode (5 times)
8. Navigated to MENU then BROWSER (5 times)
9. Navigated to PLACES to check for presence of new SSD (5 times)
10. New SSD does NOT display in the options

Andrew from Akai stated in two different YouTube videos that the MPC X was compatible with drives up to 2TB but I'm thinking that 1TB is the maximum size that the current firmware can manage. I attempted to contact Akai Support on a few different occasions but have not received any responses from them.

If there is any other possible fixes, I am open to hear and attempt them. If not, I'll be taking this SSD back and exchanging it for a 1TB. Glad I didn't purchase the 8TB SSD.

In any event, thank you ALL for your time.

I think the best option is to get a bit smaller HD and try it with that..

Just out of curiosity, would you actually need 2 TB on the mpc? Just seems like a lot to me

A 1TB SSD should work for the moment but you never know. We said the same thing about storage on a PC and/or a Mac back in the day. Now look where we are with our storage requirements. Truth be told, I'm a true gear head, so ...

If anyone has a direct connect with Akai Support - I'd love to get the official specifications from them just for my own edification.

I have a Samsung 2TB SSD in my MPC X and it works like normal

I didn’t get that 100%..have you tried formatting it in standalone inside your mpc now?

I too have a Samsung 2TB SSD in my MPC X. I formatted it on a PC, inserted it in the MPC and it works great.

Interesting. I think I may have just gotten a dud straight from factory. And I am glad that you guys have had success with the Samsung 2TB SSD without incident. I installed a 1TB SSD in my MPC Live instead since I take that with me everywhere and formatted it the same way as previously mentioned and it works without incident. Not really sure what occurred with the 2TB SSD that I had installed in my MPC X but I'm good for now. I don't really use my 'X' in Standalone mode too often. So, it's connected to my Mac Pro in a permanent manner, while the 'Live' gets love in controller mode from the MacBook Pro. Thanks again for all of your replies and inputs. I appreciate each of you.

I put a 1TB HDD in my MPC Live. Works like a dream. When I get a MPC X, I’m going to drop a 2TB HDD in it.

I have "only" a 250GB SSD running...
...but never forget: MPC software is LINUX...

I've been running a 2tb drive without any problems for about a year now.

I’m going to increase the internal storage from 16GB to 256GB and save all the expansions on it. LOL. That should hopefully be more than enough.

I would be concerned that it would make things slower. SSD is much faster than micro SD. You may not notice any difference, but would be interested ro hear about your results.

Could be a duff SSD, is it working okay in your computer? Read and write?

Did you try ringing Akai?
