Midi automation woes..

So, something is bugging me (perhaps literally) when I try to automate say the cutoff of a filter on individual midi channels of my Roland Integra-7.

So my question is, what setting have I overlooked if I can not record automation on individual channels, without it appearing on all channels?

But with a spin.. It's not quite what you MAY expect..

If I record a filter sweep on channel one, it's only going to actually affect channel one..

BUT the actual automation animation on the Q-Link led is moving as well for ALL other Integra-7 channels

And it interferes with attempts to automate the cutoff on any another channel..

THEN, that already recorded movement will interfere and counteract the new filter sweep I'm trying to record..

Skipping between what I'm recording and what's been recorded on the first channel.

You know how it sounds.. When you overdub a filter sweep on an already recorded sweep, where it skips between the previous position and the new one you're recording, creating this garbled sort of noise.

It feels like I'm missing something obvious, but can't figure out what it is..

Or maybe it indeed is a bug.

Either set different MIDI channels for each MIDI track, or just check that only the selected channel has „All MIDI inputs“ active, others e.g. none.

Ah, well having different midi channels is what I already have to do in order to be able to record different sounds on different channels in the first place..

So this have already been tested..

I've also already tested a couple of different setups in the track view, with say channel 1 set to all ports, with in/output set up to match the different channels.. Or all inputs set to 'none'

I've also tested creating different midi programs, so that there's one for each midi channel, but none of this changes the fact that I appear to be recording ghost midi tweaks for other channels that interfere the moment I turn the same knob for a different channel..

I can sort of counteract it if I solo the new track I want to tweak, that stops the movement on the Q-Link leds.. But the problem with that is that its can't hear the rest of what I'm jamming to..

I can also counteract it by muting the other track that I have already recorded a tweak on.. But then I won't hear that specific track instead.. So can't record tweaks that are supposed to follow or jam along with that channel..

So yeah - weird, lol... It's not a huge issue, but it's annoying

I‘d suggest this is due to PROGRAM architecture. Have you tried creating seperate MIDI Programs (MIDI Program 001, MIDI Program 002 etc.) for each channel?

Cheers! Yup, that was one of the first things I tried..

It's a head-scratcher for me.. There's not many settings I can see in the Integra-7 either that I can think would make a difference.

But it's as if the mpc is stuck in like, omni mode treating individual channels as if all one..

But not really.. It's only when I try to automate new stuff that I get that weird interference..

I'm going to check more into the Q-Links because it may not even be a midi issue..

I remember, I think it was on the MPC 4000, where you could set Q-Links to either jump or reset to default position.. So that when you overdub, it does not skip between positions but keeps it smooth as if you record for the first time, for as long as you keep tweaking..

That's like the last thing I can think of that could solve it.. A Q-Link setting I've yet to look into.. If I could do this, then it's irrelevant if I actually had recorded automation for real on other tracks, because recoding new wouldn't have the cutoff in this case, skip between positions.

At work so can't check now, but I'll have to look into that too.
