8 drum sounds at once on a "single multi drum plugin". So you can have 8 of the 8 drum multi plugin. 8 drum multi plugin only counts as one plugin spot in standalone. Either way you'd likely do a bass sound with glide a single instrument then do sound design for snare, clap or hi hat and record those out into samples.
The thing that I took away is the visual is great, the mixer looks cool. They need to bring that to the rest of the UI.

Nothing...
The new manual includes the 2.9 release note but only the new plugin is mentioned.

Any chance the hype synth will ever come to MPC? Or the Force’s arragment view? Akai promised this in the past but now 18 months have gone by and nothing happened...
Also, do you think that 3.0 is coming soon after this, and possible an entirely new platform for standalone?

I am quite happy for them to drip feed new stuff. The drum synths are a good (and obvious) addition for something drum focused, glad to have it.

Cant find shit for release notes either. Is this really JUST the Drum Synth? **** a man, Akai's starting to make me feel like Danoc does towards them nowadays.

The AKAI web site says 2.9 featuring drum synth 'and more'.....but I cant find out what the more is either and I have updated, nothing obvious stands out.
