For me, it's not so much the bugs. I'm actually not convinced there are a LOT of deal-breaker bugs. I do run into some things that are bugs, but it never stopped me from doing what I wanted to do. For me, it's the annoyance of half-baked features that seem like they could have been done MUCH better with a little more forethought and design.

How people use it drives the perspective though - some people are 2-4 bar sequences of kick, snare, hi-hat, sample - and I'm not belittling that - some of y'all are NICE with your skills. For them, this MPC is perfect. Others are EDM-focused... For the last 10 or so updates, Akai has made the MPC into a perfect tool for you - synths, clips, XY effects. For me, I used the MPC to produce songs - half live instrumentation, half samples, song structures, time signatures, etc. And for this approach there are a few things that are broken - and they're not getting fixed. For me Logic 10.5 rendered my MPC Live obsolete. It's now in a box waiting for 3.0 to see if I'll sell it or not (which might not be a good idea because that battery is aging LOL).

When you look at the people that are the face of Akai and the MPC now, the music they make, it's not difficult to see why the direction has been what it has over the past 10 or so updates. It's been molded into an EDM tool - hence why I call it the ED-MPC now. And I'm not mad at that. I just don't like the half-baked features and annoyance bugs that need attention.

Same here. I don't run into many bugs at all, if any. But then again I don't do the same things everyone else tries to do with it. I have seen a couple confirmed ones, 2.7 fixed one or two I had, and I saw the slice to pad bug after Tutor posted about it and tried it here. The MIDI errors and bad timing stuff, nah don't see it here and my whole setup is all about syncing and playing a bunch of external gear, the MPC is mainly my drum machine, and my EMU would be screwed if it wasn't looping and modulating in time. I remember discovering MIDI in the early 90s, that shit was complicated. I wouldn't put it past the new gen that jumped in on Akai's hype that they just don't know enough about music tech to get it right. They come from mouse clicks and computers to this machine and dont 'get it'. A lot of us here came from sequencers to computers and back again. We've got years of experience and headaches so we have no trouble adjusting. At times the MPC straddles the line between the two in a not so complete way. They need to pick a side and run with it or we get left with a machine that can half-ass a bunch of stuff but cant complete it. I was kinda hoping the $1200 I spent on the Live didn't mean I would still need a $2000+ Mac setup, let alone another sampler, to actually finish my tracks.

There's also too many genres that want their magic weapon made just for them, and Akai's trying to cater to all of them. Hip hop evolved because of the tools at hand. House music evolved because of the tools at hand. EDM evolved because, well I don't know that shit is terrible I cant listen to it hah. The tools weren't made specifically for 'hip hop' or 'house' or 'techno'. The MPC was never marketed specifically towards rappers, there were just as many 'rock' or 'jazz' kits that came with Akai samplers as there were electro/dance or hip hop ones. It was a studio production tool period. You got a sampler or a drum machine that did **** all, it was up to you to put your flavor and twist on it. I mean shit the 808 and 909 were meant to replace studio drummers. The fact that they became the poster children for hip hop and Detroit techno, and dance music in general, long after were a complete accident. TB-303 was meant to be a bass player anybody? Roland wasn't exactly thrilled their toys were commercial failures when they were released hah.

Yes, the lack of a fully integrated system is what holds Akai Pro. I'm a MPC Fanatic, well I'm a MPC 4000 Fanatic and if I blessed enough they will hold up until my last days. I can see 100% how Logic 10.5 rendered the MPC
useless in your case. There is absolutely no reason, to keep jumping around between two machines, unless that machine in fully integrated into your work flow.

It that's the case for me, the MPC ONE, it would never be updated once it was doing everything I wanted. But it's not, so the MPC ONE sits on the side used to make fast NOC'D beats and continued learning. But like you, I make music and then a bug pops up and I work around it. I only then let other know, after I'm able to consistently reproduce the bug which may be good or bad. However, I don't turn on the machine looking for every bug or every missing feature under the sun.

Exactly, make the best studio tool and let the person decide on how to use it.

There is no diff because the updates are replacing all OS content.
The only concern is your projects: you may have issue opening very old project because of file format but it is just an hypothesis.

Word! I said long ago l don't likebthe direction Akai is going so l fled and didn't look back so l wouldn't turn into stone
Plainly l don't need it, to limited. When you do music and the software don't work with VSTis that's a problem. Its not going to help if you want to do vids or movies, so if you're to advance it won't work. Not going to keep it just to say l have one. I didn't know the direction was EDM but l see it now and a younger crowd.

Akai is not going to play around with my money with a hanky panky update. You get one piece in an update? That's f****ing insane.
