MPC 2.9 - MPC Live MK2 - MIDI Program - Edit Pad Midi Notes

I've been trying to edit the MIDI notes assigned to the pads that trigger MIDI out to no avail. I've followed the instructions on page 406 of the manual ("Edit Pad MIDI Note Map") - which allows you to assign any note you want to each pad. However, when you go back to the Main view to play the pads, the notes that come out of the MIDI ports are unchanged.

I've also tried a method suggested in another thread in this forum, which said to use the MPC software in your computer (with the MPC Live 2 in controller mode), use the Edit > Note Program menu in the computer software, then save/export the program to the MPC standalone. However, the effect here is the same. Meaning - the MIDI notes that actually come out of the MPC are unchanged.

Am I missing a step somewhere? It seems like this should be really straight forward. I just want to edit the MIDI notes on the pads that go to MIDI out.

Not sure why it doesn't work for you, I just tested it with a MIDI program re-mapped in the MPC Software, the new mapping works fine in standalone.

The answer is yes. I was a missing a step somewhere. For those that may land on this post in the future with a similar issue here is what I was doing wrong:

I had it set to "Chords" mode and for the custom MIDI mapping to work, "Pad Perform" has to be OFF.

I didn't notice it because I was triggering a mono synth.

Solution
Press "Shift" + "16 Levels (Notes)" and make sure "Pad Perform" is to OFF.

I actually do have the pad perform set to off and I'm still seeing the midi output disregard the new mappings. Any thoughts?

Not enough info, describe the entire procedure you are carrying out, step by step.

Wow. I just was writing all this out below, and tried it again and now it's sending to the remapped notes. I don't know what I did right !!

Well it's the same as what's laid out by the OP.
I have a blank midi program that's going out of midi A, set to ch. 2, into ableton via my midihub (then it goes on to a drum machine, but that's irreveleant because I can monitor the midi note in ableton). I go to shift+16 levels and turn off "Pad Perform." Back in Main, I got to edit/pencil and set the preset Chromatic C1. So Pad A1 should now be playing note C1. But in Ableton it's being received as A3.

But I am noticing it is quite hard to make a custom mapping in standalone because the minute you pass through a note number that's already set to a different pad it will change that pad to something else so they aren't sharing the same output note (which I don't get because what if you just happen to want to play the same note with two different pads, say you want to space your hands out a little to perform better). The best way to workaround, atleast in a monophonic sense, is to double-click so that you can select the new note, instead of using the encoder which might pass by something that's already used as you scroll)

Dammit, now I went on to make the custom map for my next drum machine and the one that was working before went back to being effed up. In the pad note edit it says PAD A1 plays C1, but it comes of the box as A3...
