Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By mpc2000xl2020 Thu Dec 10, 2020 5:42 am
hi,

I have an mpc 2000xl. I have a lot of music/sound files saved on the zip scsi drive. I want to transfer the sounds/song files from the zip drive onto an external drive such as a laptop or a flash drive. I don't know what I need to accomplish that.

what do you recommend I do in order to be able to transfer the files from the zip scsi drive onto my laptop or flash drive? is there a converter or an adapter that would accomplish this?

thank you for your assistance.

Keep in mind that while the USB ZIP drive is a good idea, you may run into issues.

If your zip disks are formatted to have multiple partitions (so basically how people formatted things before OS 1.20) - Newer windows based computers will only read the first partition and the rest won't show up. The alternative is to pay for software like Chickensys Translator, which may not be in your lane if you're only going to do this one time.

I believe Mac OS based systems will still list all the partitions just fine, where you could then click in and copy your files over to the computer fine. But whatever you do, don't try to copy files back to any of those partitions while plugged in to a computer because it will end up corrupting the partition layout.

Question, is the scsi zip drive installed internal to your XL or is it an external one?

The scsi zip drive that is connected to the mpc2000xl is the Iomega Zip 250 external drive.

I never formatted the disks to have 'multiple partitions.'

At the time, I just inserted the zip disk into the iomega zip drive and started saving onto it as i needed.

I have multiple disks with a lot of files saved. I want to transfer all of them onto my laptop, or flash drive, so that I can pull them up on fl studio digital audio work station (daw).

You were given a solution to do that.

That seller has mistakenly titled that as a USB zip drive when it is a SCSI only one.

It is the same as what you're currently using right now and will be of no use to you.
