next step on the music/mixing /mastering

Ok i have my songs done. I have a motif,mpc1000 and aw16g recorder from yamaha. i have been thinking of adding protools or logic/ computer set up for recording. I want my finished product to as tight as possible without going to the studio but this mixing down thing is way harder than i thought and i havent even gotten close to the mastering thing.

In this case is it really worth it to add protools to my set up when it looks like i'm going to have to go to the studio anyway or will it be easier to mix down on protools than on the aw16g.

Help please, where are all the guru's at

I wouldn't consider myslef a guru...but I do know a few things, so for what it's worth...keep in mind that adding Pro Tools is only the first step in getting up for mixing down (like the pros). Sure you can go out and get pro tools m-box for 500 bucks, but what really makes your rig good is the plug-ins you have with it. Those run from 200-800 a piece. Of course Pro Tools comes with it's own plug-ins provided by digidesign, but trust me that the algorythms don't sound anywhere near as good as the waves ones.

If you like what I'm saying I'll tell you more about all this sh*t but no sense in typing a book if your only interested in a paragraph.

Also a word on mastering...you should always have someone else master for you because they will bring a fresh ear to the whole project. After listening to a beat for multiple hours you start to lose the fresh ear you had when you first started and little short comings tend to get by you that someone new to the whole project would hear immediatly.

Good looking out on the info and i would like to hear more. I am trying to go as far as i can without the majors and big time studio cost. I would rather spend the money for my own equipment and learn as much as i can.
