i am looking for a real small setup. Is the ibook with maxed ram ( 1 gig?) powerful enough to run cubase sx 3 with battery 2 and reaktor 4. I would have an external firewire drive and an mpd 16 as well as an ozone what do you all think could the ibook run it or should i pay the extra 500 for the power book ( i would rather not).

Are you set on getting a laptop or do you just want something small? I'm really impressed with the Mac Mini.

Between the iBook and PowerBook I would get the PowerBook. That's just me though. Whenever I think of iMac(iBook) I think "cheap". Except the new G5 one :D

i'd go with the powerbook... u can run ur setup with the ibook but eventually u'll start adding more tracks to ur songs... maybe get a reverb effect... or start using reaktor more. Any which way ur system will start to run slower (or not at all) and as it slows down that digs into ur creative flow. So the ibook will work (though reaktor can take up a lot) but i think u won't regret going with the powerbook. I'd recommend a used G4 powerbook.

I've got an iBook G4 w/ Digital Performer on it and it's slow as hell . I only use it for on-the-road purposes but I always see a drastic difference in speed when I get back on my regular G4 .
