Buying a new MPC

Getting a new MPC, either an X or a One, just having trouble figuring out which. I only know I'm not interested at all in the Live, don't need a speaker or battery power.

Is there anybody out there that bought a One, and has spent time wishing they got an X? Or anybody that got an X, and has regretted spending the extra money?

I definitely could use the extra outs, DIN midi channels, inputs, and storage space, but truthfully it seems I can do everything I need on the One...but if the X is worth that extra 1400 than I don't mind spending it. Please, share me your thoughts

I bought MPC One ,but f you have the money to spare ,get the X ,especially for those qlinks with the oled display.

Personally I think the X is worth it... bit nothing wrong to start with the One... it is a great deal... and flip it in the future if you want to move up to an X.

Buy a used MPC One. It's not worth paying the full price.

Could you live without those extra’s the X offers over the One? If so, are they worth the extra $1400 to you?

For me personally, if I would upgrade now I’d go for the X. I use my MPC a lot, so having that tilt screen, extra buttons and space is definitely worth that extra cash to me. Plus workflow wise I would need those extra outs.

That said, your situation is probably different than mine.

Buy the ONE and upgrade to an MPC X part two if they ever make one.

I grabbed the X but got 1000.00 off because i was givin a MPC Live, didnt like it and sold it to fund the X. Cant say i dont want a Live2 or a One for on the go because i do.

I personally didnt like the positioning of the Qlinks being on the right side on all other devices...
I also didnt like not being able to read what the qlink is. this was before the update that now shows you what they are when you touch them. Its actually nice for chopping quickly.
Ive always enjoyed having a hard drive in my mpc.
I also use hardware synths so having 2 run in midi into the mpc then recording at once in audio tracks is nice.
I dont need all the outputs as im not tracking out these days i use the ALS Export. It works fine.

I actually want to be able to use all 6 inputs on the mpc at once, like the front and back 1/2's. A man can dream.

If ya find a way to get a deal on a MPC X do it up. Make someone pricematch, or something like that.
That or buy the X and wait til someone sell a old used one for cheap and grab that too. Thats sorta what im thinking. Im just gonna toss in my bag, take it on the go and not worry about it. It would be nice to edit some stuff at my girls place.

Wish the one could have a hard drive in it. That would be awesome.

Got the original Live about two and half years ago. Loved it and still think it’s great, but always wanted an X, but couldn’t justify it then. Now I’ve just got an X, it’s the bees knees and think the two phantom powered inputs for my condenser mic are a godsend. Those and the 6 MIDI ports for other (old) MIDI hardware. The bigger screen is great for my older eyes! If you don’t need battery freedom go for the X.

LOVE my Live but if I had the chance Id swap it for an X in a heartbeat (Im probably going to actually do that later this year depending on Akai's moves). Im tapped out on mixer channels anyways, but the extra buttons and Qlinks alone would be a no brainer for me.

Its kind of a tough call, if you love the MPC workflow, no question the X is the shit.. But who knows you may get the One, find out you don't like the way it does things, and you're only out the cost of the One instead of $2k..

The second hand market for both seems pretty hot still... so buying an X new you'd probably be out about $400-$500 max, and a One maybe $100... investing used I'd expect you'd only be out the cost of shipping roughly.

I’m going to be the 13th man and go opposite here.

The MPC X is a wonderful device. My only beef with it is the the MPC X internally doesn’t give you more processing power , it doesn’t add more audio tracks, or process real-time audio warping any faster than the Live’s , Force , or the One.

Are buggy qlink oleds, led meters, phono /mic inputs, huge screen, worth $1,400?


Before lampdog and the rest of you kill me, I was just trying to show the other side. The MPC X is good device in its own right m.

I just might add I do love the Live II. It‘s great just to pack it in and put it in a proper bag just to produce where you want to (in another studio or when on the road). Great fun, and except for mic pres I don‘t miss a thing.

In your case I‘d consider whether these plus the large screen justify the price. Consider power and cabling, and check whether you have enough room (stand?) for an X. A One could still be expanded via computer & interface concerning ins, outs etc. or - storagewise - with a not-so-pricey SD card. I do have small hands, so I wouldn‘t mind small pads.
