Just curious on anyone strategies to make your drums/samples sound like a mpc3000//mpc60/sp1200(boom bap) on the new mpc line. I was wondering what your strategies are. Ill list the types most of use know about.

-recording samples at 16bit instead of 24(obviously)
-recording at 45rpm and timestretching after for artifacts.
-taking a drum loop pitching up by 20-35 Semi tones, flattening it, and doing the same negative back down to the original semitone so it gets processed by the mpc creating artifact(tubedigger strategy)
-using air enhancer effect
-using distortion grimey effect
-using the mpc 3000/sp1200/mpc60 mode(does anyone get decent results with this?)
-Lofi Effect(I dont use it)
-Of course you could resample with other hardware. Sp404, s950, etc, etc....

Theres probably a bunch im missing right now, i just cant think off the top of my head.

If anyone can add any good ones please do so. Thanks.

Personally I find that emulating the Old workflow is giving the best results. And one of the big differences with many contemporary workflows is that in the old days all tracking was done externally over analog outboard gear. When I explode the tracks of my modern mpc’s over an analog mixer, compressor and effects combined with repitching and changing bit depth I get very good results.

This also makes me believe that part of the mojo that is attributed towards how the old mpc’s sound, is also a result of this analog workflow. The crosstalk in between channels, the harmonic distortion, the increased headroom and printing to a stereo track all give their artifacts that are an inherent part of the sound of these old mpc’s.

Why? Your missing out on a major part of what your asking for?

FX#1 Air Lo-Fi
FX#2 Air Para EQ

on main out will get you what you want.

I agree with ARI, If want an old sound. I rec old analog gear.
Instead of buying an old MPC . . . . Try running it thru an old analog mixer /analog synth or even better record to a reliable tape machine.

Hand craft it

I put 4 of those on each of the 16 pad and 4 on the main main outs. MPC1200

I do that on the Live MK II to double it’s effectiveness. Brings it up to par with the S2400 :smoker:
