THE NEXT MPC

If the next MPC was in this format would you buy? Of coarse it would have the standard MPC i/o, layout, and functions.

Nope, not if it had the turntable on it hah. Id wait until my Live died and either get a 4000 or just go back to Logic where I can do most of what I do on the MPC on one screen without leaving it hehe. Id have to find a drum replacement though.. The new sampler in Logic is rad but man does it suck for drums (I couldn't find anyway to slice up a drum loop without doing it in the audio editor).

Speaking only about the form factor so it won't have a spinning platter.

Aww man, Pioneer DJ has already done it. This is what ILL GREEN has.

That pioneer gear has some really top notch sound, wasn’t a fan of it in terms of a drum machine but the Toriaz was in a league of its own in terms of sound. The beat in my footer is a few generic synths notes loaded into it with an analog heat synced for the filter sweep.
I’d be all over a pioneer dj asr type keyboard.

In terms of Mpc in that format, not sure. I’d be down for the Mpc one format expanded with more in and outs. My “OG” live still serves me fine for my needs though.

Hah damn I still havent tried the Quick Sampler yet! Since I got the MPC all Ive really used it for was like a tape deck.

Back to the topic though, yeah I suppose I probably would if I was in the market and THAT was the new MPC. It all depends on what a new one brought to the table. Some issues aside, Im pretty satisfied with the Live as it is. Id do even more in the box with it if the sampler was more of a sample mangler, but other than that I get on with it pretty good. It would all depend on the new features and the direction it goes in otherwise Id stick with mine or a 4k. I get that they tried to hit a bigger market and wanted to make an MPC everyone could get into, but their choice of features for this series still makes me go 'WTF' sometimes.. Took until 2.8 for USB MIDI to work in a MIDI sequencer? Sampler with no pitch envelope or a bipolar LFO? Splice? Drum Synth in a drum sampler? None of that stuff puts me off of the Live, but if that's the direction the next one heads in, I'll be good staying right here. I miss the old Akai JP days when the MPC was treated as a serious 'pro level' tool and not something everybody and their mother was throwing beats together on Facebook with.

That's true, I was never a fan of the screen position of the Live, Touch, or One. It's literally a pain in the neck. I'm looking at it as an updated MPC TWO, with more direct buttons and screen that's similar to what was posted.

Yeah actually the screen would be cool didn't even think of that. I keep my Live on a laptop stand so its angled but it makes playing the pads a little awkward. Aside from all the buttons, that's the big thing about upgrading to the X eventually! That Pioneer up there doesn't look too far off from some space age MPC 12K, just 'DJ sized'.

Better on the neck, keeps the pads in a neutral position for finger drumming, eliminates the need for a stands, it's also dominant hand agnostic.

I think the hardware ergonomics on the current X are right-on. Aside from two small requests; a dedicated "back/up" button below the wheel and a 'clickable' wheel, it's perfect.

The reason I even switched to MPC from Years of NI was because of standalone mode. I wanted to leave the box. Everything on the X feels like it is where it should be.

IMHO they should capitalize on that. I think evolution Should be internal. I want to be able to run a parametric EQ that has a live-analyzer.This would speed up the WF a bit. I think they should pour resources into developing more 'AKAI' standalone plugs and effects (think Mother ducker or Drum Synth). I also think they stand to make money from third parties by allowing certain plugs to have "standalone capable" options right in the box the way splice support is built in.

I haven't hit any limits as far as CPU or RAM go (although I think it is fair to say that I ACTIVELY Seek Ram optimization as much as possible). With technology becoming ever cheaper, I want to see a standalone "X2" That has PC-level RAM and a CPU that allows you to run what you want.

Modular computer parts does make it easier to repair and upgrade. But I don't really see them going back to the modular components. Using a S.O.C is much cheaper and easier to integrate into hardware.

The QuickSampler is what you need. WAAAAAAAY easier and better than the MPC. Warning, once you slice up your first sample, you won't have any reason to return to the MPC. Other than because you like to use it.

All I want is more inputs. I'm tracking so much in to my MPC nowadays it feels like I went backwards and am tracking all kinds of stuff separately in to it lol.

I just request the Highest Quality Time Stretch Algorithm...In STANDALONE Mode.. Everything else is perfect.

Wait...maybe a small Tilt Screen on the Live I/II
