I'm interested to know if the MPC one's "internal mmc" is still just an sd card. I think I may have a method for booting those units off an SD rather than EMMC allowing users to heavily modify the firmware and roll back simply by removing the internal MMC card.

If it's like the MPC Live (and it is) it has both eMMC (soldered down) and an internal SD card.

I seem to remember the uBoot on my Live had no idea about the SD card, though, in which case you'd need to replace it. But I might be misremembering.

I believe there is no Micro SD Card on the Main Board inside the One

I believe it's the same as the MPC LIVE, so you can upgrade the card.

Nice!! Do you think they didn't solder a micro sd port on the board? Did you happen to check what the SD card port is connected too?

Also this is what B&H says.

From the factory, the MPC One boasts 4GB of internal microSD storage. 2GB of that is available for user storage, while the other half is taken for pre-installed content including loops and drums samples from RawCutz, Sample Tools by CR2, Decap MSX Sound Design, MVP Loops, and F9. When you combine that with the MPC One’s synth engines—Electric, Tubesynth, and Bassline—and AIR FX mixing/mastering effects, you’ve got quite the versatile library of sounds at your disposal. If you max out the internal storage, don’t panic; just use an SD card or a USB flash drive to tap into more samples and loops.

Naahhhhh Its a Play on words lol.

The One "Contains Samples" from those Expansions. The Live/X has the whole Expansions. They must have those contained on a Hard Wired Internal memory IC. There's only Two "Expansions" loaded on the One from the Factory. And they're loaded with select sounds/programs from all of the Original Expansion.

Akai trimmed the Fat a Lil Bit. Which is cool. Bcz i dont use 95% of the sounds included wit my Live/X

Play on Words = Marketing Lies.

I opened it up, removed some of the boards and didn't find one. However, the main board is the same one in the MPC LIVE/X. I may add the 2X USB 3.0 Female Jack Dual Port Socket Type A Connector. Just to see if it works.

Yup, i poked at the uboot with a hexeditor and did a buncha tests. Unless I mod the uboot on the device to look for the UUID or PARTID of the sd its no go.

However I have manage to yeild fruitful results, using kikgen's ssh enabled fw and the two latest fw's from mpc and the force I've got my MPC One running the Force 3.0.6 software. (when i plug a certain usb in). I don't really have any intention of making it a cfw or ready made hack for others. If people arent privy to embedded toys they don't need to mess with em.

However, I wish I had a half ways sane embedded linux using friend with an Akai Force who was willing to help me poke around at a hybrid fw. How about a force with MPC and Force sw on it? totally doable.

wow, that is awesome! great work!
why dont you show some other guys, maybe at gearslutz, how you did it so that we maybe get a noobproof way to fire up the force fw on the mpc one/live/x..
Personally, I wouldn’t mind using the force fw until they are merged by akai:)

Well i went and did what I said I wasnt going to do and created and installable fw image. I have to wait 24h though to upload it anywhere because I don't have enough data currently and don't have home internet.

I have flashed it to my MPC One and tested it and confirmed its operational, however the force software is a bit buggy. Alot of the features work, (ableton control is in there if someone would like to test it for me) however some of the features seem crippled, i think mainly due to MPC configs being different, a hex editor and path modding will tell me if my assumptions are correct.

I will have to do some further testing to get more functionality out if it but if you come back in a day or two there will be a link to a firmware you can try out.

Protip to the devs out there, the "*TestApp" software in /usr/share/Akai is 70mb of factory testing bloat and is 100% safe to delete.

See you in a day or two!
