How to enable MIDI A/B PORT in Controller Mode

Hello guys,

I’m pretty new to the Akai world and I bought my first MPC live some weeks ago.
Super excited, I love this machine.

I’ve always used it in Standalone Mode but I’ve decided to switch to Controller Mode as It’s very helpful with Ableton when I’m in the studio.

Now I’ve ran into a problem that I don’t have when I’m in Standalone Mode.
I’m not able to send midi to the external synths and to switch from “DAW” to “MIDI PORT A/B”.
This happens only when I’m opening the MPC software via Ableton.
I can easily switch to the ports when I use only the software.

Can somebody help me with the solution?

This is not possible. Virtual instruments (instrument plugins) only support a single MIDI input, that is between the DAW and the plugin. Also, you can‘t use any audio inputs, since VIs don‘t work that way; you can usually only have MIDI in and audio out in an instrument plugin. Some „fx versions“ exist to send audio through the plugin but rendering the MIDI input obsolete.

So, how do you think I could do in order to send midi in this case?
Either using an external sequencer or switching the MPC to Standalone Mode, right?
In Controller Mode, MPC live is unable to send MIDI signal :/

In any case, how could I set the MPC as master and Ableton as slave?
I'm having some latency issues when the MPC is slave and is connected to the audio card.

I‘d really, deepheartedly suggest that you grab the manual and work through it at least once and try everything you read. That will definitely help you a lot.

And some things depend on your system setup (OS and desired connections) one can hardly imagine. In MPC Software there‘s a menu called Midi Control that let‘s you use the MPC as universal MIDI controller as long as you leave that particular screen open. It mostly won‘t control the MPC then, though.
